Needing the ability to easily past images into comments is BY FAR our biggest problem with Planner. I'm surprised there aren't more votes for this. For anyone doing UI software development, the ability to paste screen captures directly into comments is ESSENTIAL. We try to use Planner but our developers keep going to other tools, purely because they find it unusable w/o image pasting capability and images at the comment level, not for the whole ticket.

It is important that the image pasting be at the comment level, rather than the task/ticket level, because the issue may change over the life of the ticket, testing back and forth with the developer, etc. So the screen shot that's current for one comment may be obsolete by the time of a later comment. Please add this capability. Use the Microsoft Teams chat/post area as the model. Microsoft got it perfectly correct there. It's just a horrible shame that Planner doesn't work the same way.

Perhaps the best way to solve this and improve overall integration is to just use the existing text entry fields in Teams. Those are fantastic -- they support pasting images, rich text, and edit/delete. All of these are requests here in User/Voice, all are common capabilities in all the similar tools (Trello, Asana, Jira, etc.), and all would be addressed by simply improving the integration with Microsoft's own Teams Chat/Post capability. Consistency and problem solving all in one!

For software development (and many other kinds of projects), the ability to quickly drop in screen shots to show issues is essential. Please bring this capability that is included in all the other major project tools. Planner does so many things well, but this is a hard requirement for our Team.

As the original message requests, please add this. Currently, the apparently expected way to do this in Planner is to open a graphic program, paste the screen capture there, save it, then select to attach file in Planner, navigate to the saved image, select it. Further, even after doing this, the image is not visible inline with the text referencing it; it's just an attached image. This is a cripplingly bad user experience.

The other big project/task management systems I've seen all support this: Jira, Trello, I think Asana, etc. Further, MS Teams supports this exact capability in Chat/Posts. That we lose this capability for tasks in Planner (which we mostly use within Teams) makes this deficiency especially egregious.

Our work-around is to paste the screen captures into OneNote, then "Copy link to paragraph", then paste that link into the Planner task, but that still adds tedious extra steps and doesn't show the images inline where developers could use them. Worse, it only works from the OneNote application, not OneNote on the web or within Teams (there is no such option in web/Teams versions of OneNote), limiting how widely users can do this. MS foils us at every turn!

    Hello all,

As an update, we’ve paused work on this item to pursue wrapping up work on a few other high priority asks.

We appreciate your patience and feedback on this, and hope to resume work on this soon. Please keep voting and letting us know that you’d like to see in a Planner UWP app!

    Cheers,

    The Planner Team

The existing web version of Planner doesn't support drag on a touch screen (instead of scrolling, it moves the task -- COMPLETELY BROKEN), meaning Planner on the web is effectively incompatible with Surface devices and all the other Dell, HP, and Lenovo laptops and convertibles with touch. The iOS and Android Planner Apps don't suffer this problem. Therefore, we NEED an app just to be able to access Planner properly in Windows.

I echo the point that it's built nicely into Teams -- improving that integration would be a higher priority for us than getting a stand-alone app. However, the current Teams implementation of Planner is broken in the app (and the website) for touch -- it's impossible to scroll via touch. The Android version of the Planner app fixes this, but loses dark mode. None of them support the essential ability to attach screen captures inside comments. So those are the things I'd like to see:

    1. Ensure touch-to-scroll and touch-to-drag both work (like in the Android Planner app)
    2. Dark mode (like in Planner in Teams)
    3. Ability to embed images inline in comments (just like in Chat/Posts in Teams)

    Benefits to stand-alone:

    1. Some offline use (I realize there are limits to what can be done in a collaborative app when offline).
    2. It's own Taskbar and Start Menu links to use the app, so it's not lost in the see of browser tabs.
    3. I'd also be happy to just have better integration into the Teams app (and web versions) so it uses the same text editor for description and comments (with rich text and image pasting capabilities) and the Teams awesome notification system

Yes, a Jira-style task ID would be fantastic. It's often frustrating that there's no way to refer to a specific task with clarity without opening the task and copying the task name. Even that is usually way too long to use in a discussion or email and no guarantee that it's unique (multiple tasks can have the same task name). I want to be able to say something like, "Please take a look at DEV-1234," when speaking with members of my team.

Also, multiple times, I've lost my entire comment (sometimes after spending an hour+ adding to it), because I accidentally clicked off the task, which shockingly causes Planner to then close the task. If I knew I could edit it after posting, I might have gone ahead and posted it, but because I can't edit, I wait until I know it's done to post, significantly increasing the risk of data loss.

Use the same engine used in Teams for Chat and Post -- that supports edit, delete, and allows for the critical ability to paste images, formatted text, etc. and this already exists in a similar Microsoft system.

As others have said these are standard capabilities in competing products like Trello, Asana, Jira, etc. Planner's uneditable plain-text-only Comments and Notes are BY FAR the biggest problem with Planner for our organization.

Yes, please let us edit/correct comments without needing to write a new comment explaining the problems with a prior comment. Ideally, just integrate the Teams Chat/Post experience -- that is FANTASTIC. This would support editing comments, rich text, and pasting images directly into the comment -- very important for screen captures to show issues to developers.

    Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for your feedback and sharing how you use labels. We’ve been working on improving our labels experience, and will continue to do so. With that, we are working on increasing the number of labels and colors that you can use in Planner!

Absolutely this, and via Ctrl-V/Shift-Ins like all the other task management systems we use in software development (Jira, Asana, even MS's own Teams chats!), not via a file dialog.

Microsoft, you implemented this, which should have been a good thing, but you completely broke the ability to touch to scroll. Now you can ONLY move tasks with no way to scroll. Argh!

It's no longer possible to even scroll down to see all the tasks in a bucket, because touching to scroll the column instead moves the tasks. Even if you try to be really careful and touch in the little space outside a task, then it does nothing.

This is worse than it was. Before, at least it was possible to move a task by opening it and selecting the bucket and progress from drop-downs in the task. Now it's impossible to even get to task or buckets.

This is live and good that we can now have multiple people on a task, but now there's no way to have a primary task Owner. We need to be able to identify a single owner in addition to being able to list other participants/contributors. If a task has multiple "owners" no one really "owns" it. We need to be able to identify a single person who holds primary responsibility for driving a task to completion.

Dark Mode for Planner in Teams is great, but because Teams doesn't support multi-windows, I often need to open Planner in the web, at which point it goes to white. Please provide a dark mode for Planner just like MS offers for the other Office applications.
