This limit has been removed – users can now have thousands of tasks assigned to them.
We’re continuing work around performance and actively monitoring how many users hit this limit. So far, we only have seen users with unchecked Flows/automated task assignments hitting this limit.
We are planning on publishing formal documentation around all of our Planner limits once we’ve completed more performance work, but don’t have anything to share at this time.

We don’t have any major updates to share at this time – Export to excel is still our first step towards delivering better reporting capabilities in Planner. You can find updates and discussion on this suggestion here:

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.
Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Adding custom fields would be an enhancement our team would use. It would be really useful to create additional fields and build out a choice list. The custom fields would be plan wide.
The custom fields would also be used to filtering tasks.

Thank you so much for your feedback and sharing how you use labels. We’ve been working on improving our labels experience, and will continue to do so. With that, we are working on increasing the number of labels and colors that you can use in Planner!

This is an important enhancement our team is looking for. We need to create more meaningful colored flags to visually identify tasks by category and priority. A set of 6 colored flags is not enough.
Not only do we need want to customized colored flags, but the ability to create multiple flags of the same color with different labels.
For example, our team is working on a task and a bug has been identified. We label the task with a red flag to symbolize a bug but also choose from the various bug flags that have been created to specify the level of severity.

This limit is a MAJOR issue for long term use of planner. Historical tracking of tasks is an important component of and removing tasks to get around this limit is not acceptable.
