Really would be great to have this - several other ideas are on user voice
Important that you can create many to many relationships between tasks that way you can leverage the ability of task by task work with the visualization and reporting capabilities.
Recently used Planner for the Agile EPIC and user story structure linked to Onenote pages for a business requirement session with commercial users - worked well because its simple and does not need them to understand complex tools - at the same time I now have directly a structure that can be extracted and loaded into the real IT tools.
the ability to map the links in a "Mind Map" kind of way however would be a great help in the next steps where we can possibly deliver multiple user stories by delivering 1 IT technical source eg.

Probably more see dependencies as described in the gant chart post - to finish this major milestone we need each of "x" subtasks with their own assignees and timelines completed - you should be able to filter and report only on major/parent tasks to make status reporting easy. so a build out of current checklist functionality - I like the idea further down that you could promote a checklist item to a child task...

As an update, since we’ve still been seeing issues around date formatting, so we’re pursuing another fix that should help: If you’re using Planner within Teams, we will default to using the same language/local as Teams.

If you’re seeing this issue persist outside of Teams and your language/locale is set properly for your Office account, please let us know in the comments below!

    Thanks,
    The Planner Team

    Hello!
The export to Excel feature is complete! for more info check out our blog: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Planner-Blog/Export-your-entire-plan-to-Excel-for-powerful-analysis-sharing/ba-p/717431

many of you are now asking for import from excel. Please vote for this feature and add your comments here: https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/11730708-import-tasks-from-excel

and while you are at it - why not include a "flow template" to easily connect a plan to a "summary" dashboard in PowerBI unless you make the Planner dashboard more usefull and customizable... Gant charts etc

    Lisa Murmann commented  ·

definitely an export and import function would be very usefull. EG import a default plan unless the "template plan" functionality becomes available...
Could easily visualize eg extracting tasks and latest updates, flags and similar to eg create a summary report for someone not using the planner everyday but needing a status update.
export should give you option of what you want included or as someone else posted a raw dump so you have everything and can manipulate it separately.

Thank you for your feedback! We’ve improved the ‘Copy task’ dialogue so you can chose a different plan to send a copy of a task to! We’ll be exploring and expanding the ways in which you and your team can organize work in Planner, and hope this will be a helpful step forward.

Here’s an article to learn more about this feature: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=872349

Let us know what you think below! Thanks again for taking the time to vote for this idea.

    Hi everyone,

We have updated our Copy Plan experience – please try it out today!

This improvement includes the ability to choose an existing group or team to copy the plan into (or choose to create a new group). You’ll also be able to customize what gets copied over. Attachments can only be copied over into existing groups/teams.

You can get more details here – https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/planner-blog/expanding-the-copy-plan-and-filtering-features-based-on-your/ba-p/1483491

As an update, our colleagues in To-Do have delivered the ability to create tasks directly from Outlook.com!

To-Do has rolled out the Tasks Pane for Outlook.com’s Mail & Calendar, and is also the new Tasks for Outlook.com! With Planner’s & To-Do’s integration, we hope that To-Do will become a central hub for all of your personal tasks, and that switching to Planner to collaborate with others is seamless!

Here’s more information on the To-Do’s task experience within Outlook: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/using-microsoft-to-do-with-outlook-com-416865a1-0c4d-4e69-af6f-f98ffce3747c

Thanks for the feedback on the Filter menu and cross-plan search functionality!

Next we’d like to pursue widening the Filter metadata to include other fields like assignee, description, and checklists. We’re also working with a search team in Office to align with UX and functionality across Office 365.

This work hasn’t been scheduled yet, but we will update this thread as soon as it is.

Please continue to share details on the filter and search functionality you’d like to see in Planner!

    Thanks,
    The Planner Team

Hello! We wanted to provide an update to our status below. As we announced in our previous status update, our initial integration with To Do was our first step in a journey of bringing all your Microsoft Task Management services closer together, including Outlook and Planner. Through To Do, you can see your Planner tasks within Outlook on the Web.

However, the continuing feedback on this post makes it clear that there is a desire for more work to be done to improve this experience. We want to make sure this feedback and votes aren’t getting lost by being added to this existing post.

Instead, we’d like to make sure you have a forum to express these continuing pain points / desires, and a way to vote for which ones you’d like us to work on first (and how we should prioritize those asks against the many other great asks…

We don’t have any major updates to share at this time – Export to excel is still our first step towards delivering better reporting capabilities in Planner. You can find updates and discussion on this suggestion here:

Thank you for your patience and feedback! If you have any other suggestions on how you’d like to utilize reporting functionality in Planner, please comment below!

The ability to setup a "reporting view" in the planner with simple Gantt chart/roadmap/timeline and overall status / red/yellow/ green - and then you could export it and either put in a powerpoint of to pdf.
I imagine if you had the feature with "subtasks" you could have your major milestones as parent tasks with the subtask beneath so you should be able to filter in your report view only the Milestone tasks and get the overall status of those and perhaps display latest comment on the milestone tasks.

    Thanks for your feedback!

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.

Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Thanks again for your patience and feedback,
    The Planner Team

Totally agree the "comment" feature in planner makes sense but we see that comments on planner tasks get lost because the messages go into the team mailbox rather than teams. The key "detractor feedback" to use teams is "oh no another way of communication I have to keep track of"
If you could link planner tasks directly to the team conversation would make it much more seamless and you would only have to keep up to speed on your team conversations.
Preferably you should be able to create a link between the planner task and the Team channel conversation.

Hello! Since this is one of our top asks from users (and has been for quite a while), we wanted to provide a quick update here. As mentioned in our last update, our team has been heads down shipping some recent integrations, such as the Tasks app in teams and Tasks in Docs (both of which have initial versions rolling out now!).

Recurring tasks (and the other top UserVoice asks) are still high on our backlog. I’ll provide updates here as this feature gets closer to being shipped! We also may use this forum to reach out to you, our engaged users, with design questions we have—so stay tuned if you’d like to help us bring you the best version of recurring tasks!

In the meantime, it’s great to see so much active engagement here. We continue to iterate on our initial designs as we get more feedback from users,…
