    Hi everyone,

We recently announced and rolled out the new Microsoft Project, which was designed specifically to help teams of all sizes collaborate on projects more efficiently and achieve more together. It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.

The new Microsoft Project has been redesigned. You can see your tasks on a Gantt chart (“Timeline”) view, a Board view (similar to Planner’s), and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users. I encourage you to look at the links below and the attached GIF for a sneak peak.

With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.

    Thanks everyone…

Well, I for one (and perhaps the only 1 looking at the feedback) think the new Project for the web is a great start and fills the huge gap between the basic level of Planner and the huge complexity of Project Online. It gives our teams everything they need to manage their smaller projects. That said, I already have a Project license so don't have an additional cost to use it - I can see why this would be a barrier to many.

My preference would be for the following:
    1. Ensure all the current Planner functionality is available in Project for the Web (e.g. priorities, tags, description, updates, checklist, etc.).
    2. Provide a way of migrating an existing Plan into Project for the web (huge problem for us in adopting Project for the Web at present as I don't have the resources to manually recreate all the tasks in P4TW which are currently in Planner).
    3. Core users should purchase a Project 1 license to get all the rich new functionality (Grid, timeline, etc.) - Team leaders for example
    4. Users without a Project license get to use the Board (Planner) view of P4TW at no extra cost.
    5. Provide a simplified version of the Gantt view for these users with no licenses (show timeline, but without drag-and-drop functionality, in-view updates, etc.).
    6. Provide a PowerBI connector which covers all versions of Project as we'll need to use both versions..

I think this would allow Planner and P4TW to be merged and for Microsoft to recoup some of their investment in the product (after all, why should we get what is a good Project Management tool for nothing?).

Thanks for the 'no-update update' - I'm reading that you're going to announce something at Ignite which will improve integration between Project and Planner. Echoing the thousands of others, in this case we don't need that level of sophistication, just a Gantt view in Planner. If dependencies are added in as well, that would be a bonus (but appreciate that's getting into the realms of Project). Please, please, please provide a Gantt view in Planner - it will then be a true competitor for Trello.

This is critical functionality to support the use of Planner for staff reviews / appraisals. Being able to see what tasks my staff have assigned to them, in a single view, is an absolute requirement to make Planner a truly business-focussed tool.

It's now over a year since the last update regarding this heavily requested feature. This is the single thing preventing us adopting Planner in full as we can live with all the other improvement requests not being there yet. Please could you provide an update.

This is the one change that will make Planner a fully functioning business management tool for us. As Operations Manager for our business, I need to be able to see all tasks assigned to individuals across the service and project Plans. A number of our staff work across functions so I need an easy way to review their priorities, progress and areas where they may need support. Please could you provide an update on where this has go to. Thanks for providing such a great tool - this update would make it truly brilliant.

I manage people who work across several business functions which each have their own Plan. The tool is fantastic, apart from being able to review all the tasks assigned to an individual in one place.

This is a great addition, thanks MS. A couple of suggestions for taking it to the next level:
    1. Add the export option to the ellipsis on each plan card in the Planner Hub.
    2. Provide an option to export to Excel from ALL plans (which you have access to). This will provide huge benefits such as being able to show everything you've completed since your last appraisal! At present I'd have to export and merge info. from 8 different plans.

This feature will make a huge difference, although there's other functionality which would remove the need for it in some circumstances. One usecase is to see what's been completed in the past year to support annual appraisals - it would be great if this functionality could be added directly to planner.

For me, the requirement would be a checkbox on each charts page to Show / Hide completed tasks. Sometimes you want to see them to highlight how much has been achieved, other times you need to hide them so that the outstanding work doesn't get swamped by the volume of completed (if it's a Planner used over the long term).

Thanks for the feedback on the Filter menu and cross-plan search functionality!

Next we’d like to pursue widening the Filter metadata to include other fields like assignee, description, and checklists. We’re also working with a search team in Office to align with UX and functionality across Office 365.

This work hasn’t been scheduled yet, but we will update this thread as soon as it is.

Please continue to share details on the filter and search functionality you’d like to see in Planner!

    Thanks,
    The Planner Team

A key requirement for us is to be able to use Planner to support staff appraisals. We therefore need to be able to see all tasks completed between two dates. If you could add this is would be a massive thumbs-up from us.

Our organisation uses a number of Plans and often we find that a task could sit in more than one Plan (e.g. would "Improve HR system" sit in the HR Plan or the IT one?). It's therefore not always easy to remember where a task has been logged. Searching across all Plans is therefore vital to avoid duplication and user frustration in trying to find tasks which have already been logged.

Great to hear that search within a board is planned, but this HAS to include search ACROSS all boards. We use numerous Boards and tasks could sometimes sit in more than one of them so it's not always simple to remember where it was put. This should have an option similar to SharePoint where you can select where you want to search (e.g. just this board or all boards).

As an update, since we’ve still been seeing issues around date formatting, so we’re pursuing another fix that should help: If you’re using Planner within Teams, we will default to using the same language/local as Teams.

If you’re seeing this issue persist outside of Teams and your language/locale is set properly for your Office account, please let us know in the comments below!

    Thanks,
    The Planner Team

@Microsoft - please can you define exactly what you mean by "working hard to implement it quickly". All your non-US users have been waiting nearly 2 years for this, so please keep us more regularly updated.

Just to add to my previous comment, for friends in the UK, if you change /EN-US/ to /EN-GB/ in the Planner URL it changes the date format. This, however, is a workaround so needs fixing, urgently. Mistakes are happening because UK users read 1/2/2019 as 1st Feb 2019 - I needed this particular task completed by today (2nd January) and it's not as they thought they had another month!

Microsoft, if you wish to retain / build the positive energy from your clients around the world regarding Office 365, you need to communicate regularly in response to frustrations. Any reasonable person will accept that comprehensive, global solutions with a massive user base take time to update. BUT, saying that you "are working hard to implement [a fix] quickly" and then go silent for 11 months is very poor customer service. Please provide an update, even if it's to say that you're not there yet.

Microsoft - there are many, many requests for printing capabilities in Planner, this being the most voted for. However, I can't see a single response from yourselves so don't know if this is even being considered. Compared to other tools on UserVoice, responses from yourselves on Planner UserVoice seem to be very limited. Please could you keep people updated so they know whether to implement these tools or use competitors offerings.

    Thanks for your feedback!

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.

Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Thanks again for your patience and feedback,

    Thanks for your feedback!

With due date options in the Filter menu, and the ability to group tasks by due date category, we’re hoping that this will help Planner users find and organize upcoming dates and deadlines.

We understand there is still an ask for sorting tasks within an existing grouping, please continue to use this thread to share feedback on this.

    Cheers,

    The Planner Team
