    Hi everyone,

We recently announced and rolled out the new Microsoft Project, which was designed specifically to help teams of all sizes collaborate on projects more efficiently and achieve more together. It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.

The new Microsoft Project has been redesigned. You can see your tasks on a Gantt chart (“Timeline”) view, a Board view (similar to Planner’s), and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users. I encourage you to look at the links below and the attached GIF for a sneak peak.

With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.

    Thanks everyone…

Ouch, wrong move. Trying to champion Planner for our enterprise and we keep getting knocked back by these silly decisions.

MS you really need to look at Wrike and see where they're going right (ie a comprehensive interlinked suite of tools) as currently you're offering a bunch of dissonant apps that don't coherently work together to work effectively.

Just to illustrate how much of a miss this is...
    - Our company liked the board approach, but needed a couple basic features that Planner doesn't have (conversation images, card index) >>> We now have enterprise Trello
    - We wanted simple Gantt ability without the overhead of Project >>>> we now Also have Wrike
    - We wanted product release roadmap with reporting >>>> we now also have Aha!

3 independent platforms, costing us a fortune, that I've been unable to stop our teams entrenching themselves in all because these platforms lack basic functions that:
    a) have been in the market for years
and b) have been requested here, some since 2016!!

Terrible move, instead of taking a platform people are obviously engaged with, one that has gained a fair bit of traction and is starting to get the rich low level project management features that are needed to effectively coordinate work and report on progress. Instead you've cut this off at the knees, ended any hope that this will evolve into a genuinely useful platform, introduced a crippled middle ground product that really isn't ready for release and has half of the useful planner features completely missing.

If you'd listened to the resounding feedback here it was plan to see people like planner, but wanted gantt visuals and dependencies. What you've done is push people away by further segmenting up your offering and baffling everyone, in addition to insulting us all.

My company is off to Wrike now, all 8000 of us. Good work. I've tried to fight your corner, but I've lost.

I'm done supporting and being an advocate for this platform, it's a fruitless endeavour.

And dear God if you make this as 'completed' you'll have a riot on your hands.

Every time I present this to colleagues I get asked "so how can I see where we are on a task?"

The lack of a simple Gantt view is killing my adoption here and is making this seem a bit of a joke/toy to my teams.

    Thanks for your feedback!

With due date options in the Filter menu, and the ability to group tasks by due date category, we’re hoping that this will help Planner users find and organize upcoming dates and deadlines.

We understand there is still an ask for sorting tasks within an existing grouping, please continue to use this thread to share feedback on this.

    Cheers,

    The Planner Team

'Sort by due date' needs greater granularity. I'd like to see options for weekly, monthly, yearly (for next X weeks, months, years).

We have programmes that show 'late' and 'future' which isn't much use.

An error occurred while saving the comment
    James Ward commented  ·

This needs better customisation on how the future due dates are defined/shown/grouped.

For us 'Next Week' and 'Future' is of no use. We need this in:
    - Next month
    - Next 3 months
    - Next Quarter,
    - Next Year
    - Future

    Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for your feedback and sharing how you use labels. We’ve been working on improving our labels experience, and will continue to do so. With that, we are working on increasing the number of labels that you can use in Planner!

    1) How do you use labels to organize your work?
varies per plan/project. For NPI we would use these to categorise specific areas of a product, some might have 4, others might have 40.
For other departments it would be business areas (we'd use buckets for territories)
A lot of this could also be achieved with custom fields (including additional 'label' fields)

    2) How many labels do you need?
As many as possible, I can't imagine using more than 50 but other's mileage may vary.
A typical use case would be between 8-20 for us.

    3) Would you like an ability to customize colors? If so, how would you use it?
Yes, and I would use it to customise colours.

    4) How would you like labels to appear on task cards?
Labels specifically on the side as they currently are displayed is fine
Other lists (custom fields/options set at a higher level) would be on the card.

    5) Is there anything else would you like to add in regards to labels?
Customisation of the reporting dashboard to display and group some labels - ie by colour and then the individual elements that are assigned each colour.

We’re in the process of finalizing designs for a Planner add-in for Outlook. From the add-in, users will be able to create tasks for Planner without having to leave their inbox. The email subject and body will autofill as the task title and description, respectively, and users will have the ability to set plan, bucket and assignees . We appreciate your feedback and patience and look forward to this first step in what we hope to be a greater integration with Outlook!

There's a blanket response to these - Trello has it, Planner needs it.

Also echoing what Liam says below - the new integration of cloud services in Outlook via add-ins is awful, slow and bloated. The new OneNote for instance is dreadful and I want the old one back!

How's that finalisation going? I realise it's only been 16 months but we are losing the battle to keep people on 365, let alone Planner. These workflow improvements are about the only aspect that we can use as a vehicle to encourage user adoption away from Trello etc.

As an update, since we’ve still been seeing issues around date formatting, so we’re pursuing another fix that should help: If you’re using Planner within Teams, we will default to using the same language/local as Teams.

If you’re seeing this issue persist outside of Teams and your language/locale is set properly for your Office account, please let us know in the comments below!

    Thanks,
    The Planner Team

We have offices in US and UK, this is a real pain when we can have per-user settings for our 365 accounts and massively confusing.

Definitely needed - comparable platforms have it, and it's one of many deciding factors to our company not adopting this in favour of Trello

    Thanks for your feedback!

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.

Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Thanks again for your patience and feedback,
    The Planner Team

As soon as people in my company realise they can't add fields they wander off back to Excel or on to Trello - this is a big miss from this platform.

This needs a thoughtful implementation though, and would be broadly covered by the following:
    - custom text fields
    - list drop downs (managed at a higher level to define the options
    - check boxes/radio boxes
    - basically anything you can currently define in a sharepoint list

I also just want to point out that it's coming up to 4 YEARS since this requirement was identified - where is Microsoft's agility?

Also need to add images to the comments section to track narrative of task progress. currently no one will use the comments section due to how we use planner.

considering you can e-mail to a Team, I'm finding this is one of the key areas that's preventing people from adopting this. Considering this was shared THREE AND A HALF YEARS AGO I have no faith it'll be here before our entire company moves to Smartsheets and Wrike (2 platforms certain teams have already moved to).

Agreed, and we should be able to colour bars by progress and/or priority on these views. Not muce use without this.

Hello All! The priority feature is complete! Priority is rolled out to production across the Web and Teams. It’s also available in the mobile app an in the beta endpoint for the MS graph API. We’ve also updated the charts view to include a priority chart .

Please give it a try and let us know what you think! If there’s something you’d like us to improve upon, please find and vote on that suggestion or create a new one so we can prioritize accordingly.

for more info on the priority field, check out:

We have started using this but we do need it to be captured on the graph dashboard like the 'progress' currently is. Perhaps you can see total tasks/bucket with the bars split by progress OR priority? Pivot tables/graphs handle this well to allow us to see who is responsible for high priority issues rather than tracking progress.
