We’re in the process of finalizing designs for a Planner add-in for Outlook. From the add-in, users will be able to create tasks for Planner without having to leave their inbox. The email subject and body will autofill as the task title and description, respectively, and users will have the ability to set plan, bucket and assignees . We appreciate your feedback and patience and look forward to this first step in what we hope to be a greater integration with Outlook!

As an update, our colleagues in To-Do have delivered the ability to create tasks directly from Outlook.com!

To-Do has rolled out the Tasks Pane for Outlook.com’s Mail & Calendar, and is also the new Tasks for Outlook.com! With Planner’s & To-Do’s integration, we hope that To-Do will become a central hub for all of your personal tasks, and that switching to Planner to collaborate with others is seamless!

I've been using the Smartsheets Addon for years and its works well. Nothing flash, simply the ability to add an email as a new task to the users own backlog with a pop up for the list of available Planner boards plus a selector for the bucket with the text as the comment.

Adding an Estimate & Actual Field To a Task is critical, Needs to be available via an API (or Flow) also for integration with Professional Automation & Billing Systems

    Hi everyone,

We recently announced and rolled out the new Microsoft Project, which was designed specifically to help teams collaborate on projects more efficiently and achieve more together. It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.

We’ve brought the Planner board view to the new Project! Along with this, you can see your tasks on a Timeline view, and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users.

With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.

Thanks everyone for your patience, I encourage you to check out the new Project, and even start a trial – see the attached GIF

Is this not a Gant View as discussed in other POsts?

    Thanks for your feedback!

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.

Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Thanks again for your patience and feedback,
    The Planner Team

This combined with the Gant View Proposal and Excel Export would be very powerful..

The BIG thing missing for me here, is the ability to drag a task onto another task, and for this to create a sub task in the target. Using Planner in Kanban board style with a backlog, this would be awesome, noting that I am using Flow to generate a backlog from Flagged emails.

    Hi everyone,

It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.

The new Microsoft Project has been redesigned. You can see your tasks on a Gantt chart (“Timeline”) view, a Board view (similar to Planner’s), and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users. I encourage you to look at the links below and the attached GIF for a sneak peak.

With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.

I think the Smartsheet model is close to how alot of user would wnat want to see this. This would need to include dependencies and ideally a fe custom fields that could be added to a Task, such as <Estmated hours< and <Actual>. To work with a Gant effectively, you also need to have a list view again similar to the way Smartsheets handles this.

I've been using Smartsheets for over 7 years, today I have this plugged into Teams as an addon and use it every day. I see a Gant as another dashboard on the "Charts" screen, whereby the start and finish date would denote is position on the timeline. However, you would want to be able to edit inline the dates (or drag them on the time line) and/or add a dependency to do the same. You would also want Tasks and subtasks to appear in default order, but draggable once in the Timeline just in the same way a card be moved.

Finally, you would want to be able to pin this dashboard either to a publicly available (discrete) URL similar to Smartsheets or to a PowerBI dashboard for more control.
