Thanks for your feedback on Copy plan!

We’re planning on pursuing the following improvements to copy plan:
    1) Enable users to copy a plan within an existing group
    2) Copy plan in Teams

Currently we are booked through November working on three BIG initiatives, but should have an update on scheduling soon after.

In the meantime, we’d love to hear how you’re currently using copy plan and any other improvements we should pursue.

Thanks again for your patience and feedback!

Currently we are not using "Copy Plan" at all, as we need to be able to copy within an existing group. At the moment we are manually copying tasks (or recreating them as new) when we need them. This is preventing full use of planner, which is currently really only being used as an ad-hoc to do list.

    Matthew Bassett commented  ·

Would be good to get visibility when this will be implemented.

When check list item is assigned, that person also should appear in the assigned list for the task (with a badge to show they are assigned only a check list item, unless they were already assigned for the whole task). When someone checks that assigned check list item, the person assigned is automatically removed from the list of people assigned to the task.

Makes it possible to have a process flow involving multiple people (e.g. generate, review, update, approve, etc.)

Copy plan is now available in Planner’s Web App! The Planner team is excited to release this functionality and would love to hear how we can improve upon this moving forward. Please comment below to let us know what you think!

Really need to be able to copy within, or across Teams in order for this to be useful for us. We have several teams that are working on projects that have the same general flow, and it would be incredibly useful to have a Planner "Template" we can copy to each Team each time they start a new project.

    Hello!

Thank you again for your feedback on this feature. We’re happy to announce that we’ve just finished rolling out Export to Excel to all Planner users.

Please give it a try and let us know what you think! If there’s something you’d like us to improve upon, please find and vote on that suggestion or create a new one so we can prioritize accordingly.

More info on Export to Excel: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Planner-Blog/Export-your-entire-plan-to-Excel-for-powerful-analysis-sharing/ba-p/717431

    Cheers,
    The Planner Team

It would be good to be able to import from Excel as well (e.g. export an excel from which can be updated and then imported back into Planner to gain updates on progress).

This would allow collaboration with teams that are not for some reason able to access the planner plan.

    Hi everyone,

We recently announced and rolled out the new Microsoft Project, which was designed specifically to help teams of all sizes collaborate on projects more efficiently and achieve more together. It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.

The new Microsoft Project has been redesigned. You can see your tasks on a Gantt chart (“Timeline”) view, a Board view (similar to Planner’s), and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users. I encourage you to look at the links below and the attached GIF for a sneak peak.

With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.

    Thanks everyone…

Might be useful to give tasks short alphanumeric codes for WBS identifiers to be used in dependencies and for other uses...

It would be good to be able to link a task to another task upon which it is dependant (e.g. Task B cannot start until task A is completed, Task C cannot complete until Task A is completed, etc.).

Entry should be allowed in either direction (e.g. conceptually it makes sense to enter the tasks in the order they are done, Task A, Task B, Task C, etc. where Task A must be completed before Task B can be started, which must be completed before Task C can be started)

Thank you for your feedback! We’ve improved the ‘Copy task’ dialogue so you can chose a different plan to send a copy of a task to! We’ll be exploring and expanding the ways in which you and your team can organize work in Planner, and hope this will be a helpful step forward.

Here’s an article to learn more about this feature: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=872349

Let us know what you think below! Thanks again for taking the time to vote for this idea.

    Cheers,

    The Planner Team

    Thanks for your feedback!

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.

Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Thanks again for your patience and feedback,
    The Planner Team

Would be good to be able to customise the name (and colour in the chart) for "Progress" / "Status" field (for instance I would like to use a progress named "Blocked" for items where I can make no further progress due to missing inputs or actions from other people).

At the moment the only choice I have is to move such tasks back to "Not started" so that I can focus on the current tasks that I can make progress on.
