    Hello!

We’ve just released our integration with To-Do as a first step towards a larger task coherence initiative.

Today, you can view and edit Planner tasks you’ve been assigned in To-Do’s new Assigned to me list. This is available on to-do.office.com and To-Do’s Windows, Android, and iOS apps.

Here are more details on this integration: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Planner-Blog/Planner-and-To-Do-integration-bringing-you-a-more-cohesive-task/ba-p/553485

Our work in this area is not done, and we’re relying on you to help us decide what’s next, please keep the suggestions coming!

    Cheers,
    The Planner Team

Also need federation with Office 365 government tenants. I feel weird asking our biggest client to sign in as a guest with a Microsoft consumer account.

We tried using Yammer for this -- but are anxiously awaiting the ability to assign external users to Groups so we can get them onto a Plan.

This is SO critical. Almost every project we will use Planner for requires the involvement of external collaborators. And I'm already creating Groups and Plans with this in mind. We already can share files externally with OneDrive for Business. Getting this done is important. So important that if it's not done when I need it, I will buy extra licenses and assign them to external users. But using it that way is not going to work as well as having a method of getting external users into Groups. Let me know when you want us to test it, Planner Team. Thanks!

Planner may not be 100% ready for prime time, but has it even moved into general release, yet? I subscribed to the UserVoice for Planner to read comments, and I'd have to say 70-80% are complaints about what hasn't happened yet, anger with Microsoft for not moving faster -- or "ignoring" a specific issue with Planner as in "how could they be such idiots for ignoring the feature most important to me."

Jeesh! I am unsubscribing from this UserVoice, because I am tired of seeing all the whining about a product that has a lot of potential -- and I feel bad for the product team tasked with developing Planner having to deal with such incredible incivility.

Could Microsoft do better? Sure! And with unlimited money and resources, you can accomplish great things. But I doubt the Planner team has unlimited budget and resources -- not to mention they are integrating the product within the Office 365 Groups environment, which likely includes other product teams.

For my part, guys, I think you are doing admirable work, and I bet the majority of the folks looking at the potential of Planner feel the same way. That's not to discount the need to get further along, and integrate with other products. Perhaps if you were to do ONE thing a LOT better, it would be to communicate your direction more effectively back to this UserVoice board.

Best of luck and great success to everyone here in the New Year!

With Microsoft Teams implementation of Planner, they are almost there. You can create many channels for a Team. Each team is attached to a group. Each channel can have its own plan. Unfortunately, if you have an existing plan with that group it is not available through Teams -- and the Teams implementation of Planner is sort of a Planner Lite with fewer features, which I find very frustrating. Also, you can't currently view these additional plans inside the Planner Hub; only within Teams. Still a long way to go to make this functional.

We do this now by creating sub groups -- the only problem with that is the groups are not linked together. I'd love to be able to take a larger task (like an Epic) and break it down into sub-tasks. I'd ALSO like the ability to move one of those sub tasks from one plan to another. For instance, we're using Planner as a Kanban board. I'd like our Support Team to be able to put bugs and feature requests into a separate Plan, and allow us to move them from that to the Backlog bucket in another Plan.

    Hi everyone,

Thank you for your patience. We have updated our Copy Plan experience – please try it out today!

This improvement will include the ability to choose an existing group or team to copy the plan into (or choose to create a new group). You’ll also be able to customize what gets copied over. Attachments can only be copied over into existing groups.

You can learn more here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/planner-blog/expanding-the-copy-plan-and-filtering-features-based-on-your/ba-p/1483491

As an update, our colleagues in To-Do have delivered the ability to create tasks directly from Outlook.com!

To-Do has rolled out the Tasks Pane for Outlook.com’s Mail & Calendar, and is also the new Tasks for Outlook.com! With Planner’s & To-Do’s integration, we hope that To-Do will become a central hub for all of your personal tasks, and that switching to Planner to collaborate with others is seamless!

Thank you for your feedback! We’ve improved the ‘Copy task’ dialogue so you can chose a different plan to send a copy of a task to! We’ll be exploring and expanding the ways in which you and your team can organize work in Planner, and hope this will be a helpful step forward.

Here’s an article to learn more about this feature: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=872349

    Hi everyone,

We recently announced and rolled out the new Microsoft Project, which was designed specifically to help teams of all sizes collaborate on projects more efficiently and achieve more together. It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.

The new Microsoft Project has been redesigned. You can see your tasks on a Gantt chart (“Timeline”) view, a Board view (similar to Planner’s), and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users. I encourage you to look at the links below and the attached GIF for a sneak peak.

With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.

We’d love to hear more about the following:
    1. When would you delete or archive a plan?
    2. How long would you like it to be accessible?

Feel free to include any specific scenarios where archiving a plan would be useful.

We appreciate your feedback and look forward to reading through your comments!

    Cheers,

Hello! We wanted to provide an update to our status below. As we announced in our previous status update, our initial integration with To Do was our first step in a journey of bringing all your Microsoft Task Management services closer together, including Outlook and Planner. Through To Do, you can see your Planner tasks within Outlook on the Web.

However, the continuing feedback on this post makes it clear that there is a desire for more work to be done to improve this experience. We want to make sure this feedback and votes aren’t getting lost by being added to this existing post.

Instead, we’d like to make sure you have a forum to express these continuing pain points / desires, and a way to vote for which ones you’d like us to work on first (and how we should prioritize those asks against the many other great asks…

If you want to see where they are, go to the roadmap:

    https://fasttrack.microsoft.com/roadmap

And then search for "planner" -- then especially check out the "In Development" section. You'll see they are paying attention to uservoice, but not always on the same page with everyone here. As of this date, there is no reference to Outlook Task integration, though there is reference to access to the Tasks API, which might make it available to Outlook via a plugin.

My primary request is to have external users access Planner and templates.

I like the tight integration idea. For instance, when I add a document in Planner, it is automatically saved to the related group storage. I love OneNote, and I'm trying to think of an easy way to integrate it with the Planner Group. For instance, if you have a report template that you can add notes to in OneNote, it might pull data directly from the Plan. If you have notes related to a specific task card in a plan, it might automatically generate a link in the appropriate card. While I agree with Lorin that there may be logistical problems between tasks in OneNote and Planner, linked tasks still make sense to me, since you can make progress against them and mark them as done in any location they might appear. And those changes would be reflected back in the plan.

Greg, if your Office 365 tenant is setup for the First Release track, you should see the preview. This setting is made in the admin center.

Love the checklists -- but I'd like to see this go a step further, and that is to take a bucket, and turn it into a linked sub-plan. That way that task card can become it's own bucket in the sub-plan with its own assigned task cards sent out to different individuals.

We have to manually do this now in order to use Planner effectively on larger projects. We end up creating related plans, and then when one of the sub-plans is completed, we mark the related task card as done. If the sub-plan were linked to the master plan, once everything in the sub-plan was marked complete, it would be marked complete in the master plan automatically.

Then from the standpoint of communicating project status, if someone needs to see the overview at the higher level, they'd also see percentage complete related to that bucket and those related cards.
