My guess is that, after 5 years of no movement, they don't want to cannibalize MS Project?

I want this too. I may have a Kanban card which is 95% ready, but a tangent task might come up out of my checklist, from which I'll create a seperate task. I could close the Kanban card, but a parent-child referencing or connection would be very handy.
My org is very good about ISO 9001 compliance and this lack of referencing is a deterrent for depts using Planner in their MS Teams. I'm actually really surprised Microsoft still haven't addressed this yet

It is really necessary in projects to be able to link subtasks with the same funcitonality as a normal task. It shoudl also be visible in the main task if the subtasks have been completed or not.

A linked task or subtask is truly a necessary missing feature of being able to use Planner effectively.

Subtasks are definitely necessary in order to use it as a professional managing tool. I would say, it is important as much as the assignment option.

I'll add my voice to this. . . being able to add sub-tasks to existing tasks is NECESSARY.
checklist is nice but i need the full task features (assign to, due date, start date, etc) here and not just a list of items to be completed -

With 2500+ votes and 190+ comments one would expect this to be at least in the planning phase after nearly 5 years.

we are also just switching to MS Teams and thought we could cover our Task assignment with it too but this is basically useless without subtasks that can be assigned independantly. will probly stick with the freeware that I am using right now that can cover all those basics.
