Allow Application permission type for Planner Graph API calls
Organizations should be able to use application-only permissions to make API calls to Microsoft Graph to get planner details. This would be used in service or daemon styled applications which poll to collect usage information.

Currently an Admin Account (SP, Exchange or Global) is required to backup Planner tasks. it would be great if a standard user (or a specific role with minimal privileges) could be used instead.

This feature enables us to integrate task management with business workflows, where we need to create tasks as the workflow progresses through the activities and this has to be done under workflow app context.

I'd like to associate myself with this request. Enabling Application Permissions for Planner exponentially increases the usefulness of Planner and Teams in general.
Can we get a timeframe for the introduction of Application Permissions in Planner? -

I think this is a very important feature for the future. Currently only delegated personal users are supported to access the Microsoft Graph API to get planner details. If you want to use this API for an application you need to use a "service account" for it (dirty workaround). But that only works if the whole organisation policy is not using the multi factor authentifcation.
Unfortunately our organisation policy uses the multi factor authentification because we got a official suggestion from Microsoft to do it (for security reasons). In my eyes this scenario is a big gap in the microsoft eco system.
