Hey people! Please vote for the existing main item covering this feature request, otherwise it will delay getting this prioritised: https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/11551248-ability-to-mention-collegue-in-comments-section
Yes there are already many posts about the @username. Jira does it and this is limiting adoption.

The "mention" functionality is great. However, any assigned persons should always get a notification email when a comment is added. But, nobody ever needs a notification email when they comment on a task themselves.
The commenting section is core to making planner a collaboration tool - you cant work together on a task or clarify a taks if @mentions don't work and if every message gets turned in to some kind of email with an email signature block.... make it a modern comments and collaboration solution, not an old school email process please.
... and the ability to save a timestamped comment to track progress notes against a task WITHOUT spamming everyone assigned with an email notification....

This would be a very beneficial feature. It's hard to believe it isn't already available. I've seen users asking for this for a few years now. Development, please roll this feature out!
Vote on these 5 other posts as well to help get this implemented:
