Comment Notifications
If someone adds a comment to a task, the person who created the task and anyone assigned to the task should receive an email notification in their inbox in the same way a person who is assigned a task receives an email notification.

There needs to be a way to comment @Susie and then receive a notification...see Trello. This is what makes Trello a far superior tool. Unfortunately stuck using planner because of licensing but it totally misses the mark on commenting and notifications.

Yes, please! Currently, the creator of the task has to post a dummy comment to be notified on any questions or comments.

Do what you do in teams and what Jira Does the @username in comment would work like a charm.

Totally agree, this is a must! Comment notifications are useless the way they are implemented today...

This is a must. Currently efficieny is so low for the usage. How could we check each task that the comment happned or not. (I do not want to send all comments to everyone)
Please develop this issue by planner or via power app.

Current functionality makes comments useless. Not a great communication tool and needs to be expanded.

The current Planner notifications for comments on tasks make no sense.
If I want to ask someone a question within a task or if I want to comment something important, people assigned to the task will not see my comment unless they have previously commented on the task.
It is critical that users receive notification of comments on tasks they have been assigned, regardless of whether they have commented on the task.
Right now, we are dealing with this limitation by telling each other when we make a comment. This only works for us because we are a tiny office of three people. It would never work for ten or twenty people—I doubt it would even work for five!

This needs to be implemented. We are looking at moving to Jira because of the lack of this functionality

This has actually been a deal breaker for a number of our users that has resulted in them using a different product. They really like Planner, but the fact they don't get notified of comments by email if assigned to a task has stopped them using Planner. There needs to be an option to turn this on or off.

I can totally see why the original functionality where everybody on the channel got emails for everything was not right, but I do think the throttle has been cut back a bit too far now.
This is what I see as desired functionality for the short term:
• All members linked to a Task – not the channel - should always get the email when a comment is send
• Members removed from the task will not get any email about the task anymore (e.g. higher level management don’t need all communication on admin items, so are removed from the task)
• when somebody was removed, but added a comment they should be added to the task again, so that they also can be removed again afterwards when neededFor the longer term I would rather see a notification in the Teams app activity feed instead of the emails (opt-in/out)

It is crazy that comments in planner items are notified to all team members, without any possibility of opting out of this feature if the task is not assigned to you.

As Shiann Weiss commented - to reduce emails, use the existing notifications engine within Teams to alert us to comments on Tasks for which we are the Assigner or the Assignee. And DO NOT alert the entire team - only those directly affected by the task.
And I am definitely looking forward to Tasks in Teams coming this quarter! https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/planner-blog/announcing-tasks-in-teams-a-coherent-task-management-experience/ba-p/969386

An assignee of a task should always be notified of a comment or change to a task.Having advance notification options would help keep everyone happy. Right now the tool has lost value and forcing additional communication outside of Planner.

I just can confim all written comments before. This part of complete misleading notification without any relevance to the people related to the tasks is far a way from a design feature. From my point of view it's a software bug.

This is the most important feature in a task-system, and it is a complete deal-breaker that it has been removed, in stead of making it an opt-out option. It makes the planner useless for project planning/ management. When team members can't collaborate on the tasks, because of lack of notifications, there is simply no benefit in using planner.
This is how it should work:
Team members assigned to a task should have an email notification when someone writes a comment (with a possibility to opt-out)
Team members commenting on a task should have an email notification when other comments on the same task (with a possibility to opt-out) -

What is this... Schrödinger's comment box? But seriously, why are not all assigned members of a card notified when comments are created? This is a continual point of friction with our adoption of Planner.

I am shocked this is not a current feature. Please consider. It makes assigning individuals almost pointless. The option to have Teams alerts for Planner-related changes would be great as well.

Yes please,
How can we collaborate on the planner without notification?
