Disable email notifications for comments
I want an option to disable notifications for comments.
I do not want to email the entire Office365 Group every time I add a comment. You can't disable this.
Furthermore, if I did want an email to go out, it should be identified as coming from Planner rather than an email from me.

The amount of emails generated will promote user fatigue and result in either mass delete or inbox rules. If I'm deleting a bunch of emails in a single action I'm not going to know if I actually need to read it. Also, users will avoid using the comment feature.

Disable email distribution from comments in Planner, this is not a good feature - at all. Planner could be such a great tool and more people will migrate from Asana. Please provide options.
I agree this is a big deal. I stopped using planner because of this. I really hope someone is looking at this.

Surprised to see there is no comment from Microsoft on this one yet. It's a fairly big deal (large miss to have implemented this stuff like this in the first place (who's double-checking decisions before they go out the door?)).

This and the fact that Planner cannot be used in Private Channels unfortunately makes it unusable in large organizations.
These notifications need to be fixed, and the ability given to turn them on and off.

This has and will continue to hinder adoption by many. Though individuals can adjust, in part, through workarounds described previously, such as turning off all group emails, they would each have to do that for every group they are part of. For people like me in a large, matrixed organization, that is a big waste of time. I suspect it also has the unintended consequence of *not* receiving real emails to the Group, those that were intended to be emails and not simply system-generated emails from a single Task comment.

Seems likely, from reading through the comments (no pun intended), that many likely give up using Planner before getting here to vote it up. 362 votes in 3 years?! This will probably never get fixed.
Just noticed that there is a Notifications specific section in the sidebar, whereas this vote is in the General section. The highest voted suggestion there is 317 votes. How do we get redistricted?
I think someone in trello is bribing someone in MS!
There doesnt seem any other probable answer for this pesky and spammy feature to be kept beyond the controls of the users!

I don't understand why we can't configure these notification emails. When I make a comment on a task, it sends me an email from myself with the comment I just made, which is useless. But when others make a comment on a task, I don't get an email. That's completely backwards from what I need and doesn't make any sense. Notification settings -- like you have in SharePoint, Teams, etc -- are a basic need if you're sending out emails.

This small issue is the reason why we're probably not going to use your app. Rebrand it however you want, as long as this ONE ISSUE remains the entire thing is **** near useless. This could be so useful to us but no...

Laptop works on a rechargeable battery. On the bottom side of a laptop, there is a rectangular battery that powers the laptop. An AC cable supplies power to the laptop. The power comes from a power outlet to a jack inside the laptop. If the battery runs out, the laptop won’t work. We use the Group email to send important messages to the whole group. But these priority emails get ignored more and more as people get tired of receiving all the comment emails.
It really doesn't make sense that we can't remove the Group from the Comment notifications, only the individuals involved in a task need the notification. And not just after they have replied to comment, for any comment.

Comments are not needed to be shared to the entire group, I don't see a reason why anyone would ever want this, especially when there can be multiple plans per group. If I want a single group for my department, we will want multiple plans to track all of our projects. Users want to be able to add comments to track changes and issues along the way, without email blasting everyone in the whole group
This blog post in 2018 makes it seem like they fixed this, but I still see the issue.
At a minimum this should be a toggle for the plan (enable / disable)

Assigning cards to specific people, yet pushing group email for every comment, is not only spammy (so. many. emails.), but what about large groups with many tasks, proper label usage and subject-specific buckets where 80 percent of comments will be irrelevant to a regular user? I don't regularly work with events, for instance, but I need to be able to see what's being done when needed, so breaking it into another group or another Plan (board) is not an option. Either you do everything as a group (i.e. no assigments) or comments on cards only affect assigned users. This weird middle ground violates not only interaction design best practices, but also the principle of least surprise. We literally can not and will not use Planner until this feature exists. If we start using it, my organisation will complain about spam the next day and refuse to use it ever again. And turning off the group emails to inbox feature is not an option since everyone on our team use group emails to inbox and would like to continue to do so. A lot of design work and thought obviously went into Planner, so it feels extremely silly that this one uselss non-feature is what's keeping us on Trello, but that's the way it is.
tl;dr - Please consider adding this. Not just because a lot of users want it, but because the current setup violates good design practices.
All other notifications sent to the group can be controlled, but not notifications for comments. This doesn't make any sense. I am part of the IT group, but I made a Plan for just the product I maintain. It doesn't make sense for the entire IT group to get notified of the comments I make about my product.
Cmon Microsoft, back to basics...
From the first 1/2 hour of setting up a test instance of Planner, Tasks, whatever it's called, I was so overwhelmed with emails that i instantly decided that I wouldn't ever want to use it. I can't get work done if I'm weeding through many, many emails about something I can see when I open the Planner app.
