Ability to change background color
I'd like to be able to change the background color - easier to identify what board I'm in + cards would stand out more. Depending on display we use, there is not enough contrast between cards and background, making it hard to see.

@Mentions on the tasks (chat function) with alerts for the mentioned colleagues.

Once this is implemented, it would be great if the Planner integration in Teams also showed the selected background colors!

This would be great! The request is now almost 3 years old with no response, though.
There are a few other Planner Uservoice requests along similar lines (though all have fewer votes than this one at the moment):

Please enable background to be changed ito colour and custom image like Trello. This would enable users to just use Planner and not have to integrate Trello into Teams.

We've moved a couple of projects to teams and planner and it'd be really useful to change background or set colours to tasks in the schedule view. It's difficult to read when you have multiple workstreams in the same project. The month viewer is essentially useless because it only shows 2 tasks and then (+3 or whatever), which isn't user friendly on giving quick snapshots of whats happening to managers and directors.

To echo Lara Lin, our team is also moving from Trello to Planner and agree as well, it is a big downgrade in functionality. The good news is there is room to grow and change. Microsoft, this is a big UI improvement that should be an easy lift for you to accomplish. Please add the ability to change background color or to use an image file as the background to the plan. This will really help!

Our team is moving from Trello to Planner (thanks, COVID-19), and oof... What an absolute downgrade.

Our organisation is looking to move over from Trello. There is something about Planner that makes it much less appealing to use. Is there a plan for custom backgrounds?

I assumed I was missing something. We are rolling out Office365 and I am moving over my Trello Boards to Planner. Maximum of 6 labels and no formatting customisation is really disappointing. Really basic things for a basic UX. I want Trello back!

How is this not possible yet? :(
I just switched from Trello, but lack of readability is making me want to switch back -

This would be very helpful, just like Trello works.

Planner really needs this feature to appeal to existing Trello users. Either a selectable background colour for the board, or the ability to add a pattern or image would make Planner much more visually appealing to use.

Help me migrate Trello fanatics to Planner please. Custom background per user settings would be ideal. Thank you

Not just background color, but ability to add any image would be appreciated. Just look at Trello. Go for the wow factor.

This would be so much better for working with Planner and concentration on the items. I want to switch from Trello to MS Planner but changing the background so the cards will show up clearly is kind of mandatory for me.

The white on white is awful to look at. This should be a basic feature
