Provide notifications inside Planner for those who don't want email notifications
Create a notification center inside Planner that will keep you up to date on all subscribed changes inside Planner. Notifications should display updates on all projects and tasks that you follow or are assigned.
After you’ve read or taken action on a notification in the Notifications tab, you can archive it.
You should be able to take action on tasks while reviewing Notifications.
Asana has a wonderful notification system called Inbox. It helps to reduce email notifications and provides notifications in-app. https://asana.com/guide/help/fundamentals/inbox

YES PLEASE! even if it's just highlight a card when there's a new conversation item in the comments

Notification options are a must not everyone wants to get notifications, but at the same time some people need reminders of the deadlines coming up without having to check the app.

Instead of emails - it would be great to incorporate notifications as part of planner tool. For instance, when I log in, it would be great to see a signal on the task itself that a new comment has been made, a new file uploaded, etc. Even if it was similar to your phone where you just see a red circle with a number in it. The number letting you know how many new things are in there. If we had that, it would keep us in the tool and out of email all together.

Agree that doing what asana does in this regard would be great

I would also like to add that even just specifying push notifications only instead of both that and email would be great. Planner is too noisy with emails but push notifications and choosing what to receive notifications for would be great.
Ultimately, I do like the Asana-like notifications.

Microsoft could learn a lot from the way Asana does things. We find Asana practically perfect for our requirements, other than the fact it woudl make sense to use a system that integrates into Office 365. Right now Planner is a long way off acheiving that, but will hopefully develop in the right direction.
