Add people to plan as View Only
We would like to have people be able to view a plan and subscribe to email updates, but be unable to edit the plan. This way we can restrict access to a plan's visibility while still allowing interested parties to view progress, etc.

I'm surprised this hasn't received a lot more votes, but this "view-only" role would be very beneficial to our team. Simply put, I would like to add some lower level management access to view our workflow without having the ability to make edits or post content that needs to gain their supervisor's approval. The view only access would allow these members to see the task/need, and then do the homework necessary, submit to their supervisor for approval, and their supervisor who has owner rights would then be able to make the final suggestion/edits as needed.

This would be very useful for upper management to be able to view plan progress while not specifically needing the requirement to be assigned to any tasks as a team member

I’ve added someone to a task but now they have full access to all team planners. Having the option to only allow view of assigned task would be great.

One way we use Planner to track maintenance and enhancement requests for our IT department for the year. We can't open the planner up to the rest of the organization for them to see what we're working on without making everyone in the company part of the IT team. A view-only option would really help my department with the transparency we want to give to our company with respect to our operations.

My boss / project manager refuses to start using planner because of the lack of access restrictions. She wants full control of editing the plan so she doesn't lose an overview of what's happening.

I would want to add someone as 'View Only' but also not have them included on any notifications or group emails (if the planner is associated with a group or Team).

I want to add a user to a specific task but not have them see the whole plan - is this possible?

This is very important to limit write acces to some user but let them the opportunity to follow the task/plan evolution. Actually I have create a plan for my task (IT manager in a PME) and I have put all the user with a PC in the plan. But I don't want they create or close or delete a task in that plan.
