I want a "Convert to Task Planner" button for emails
Most of our tasks come in via email, a simple button to convert it to a planner task would be imperative, otherwise it renders the planner a little bit pointless for us.

As an update, our colleagues in To-Do have delivered the ability to create tasks directly from Outlook.com!
To-Do has rolled out the Tasks Pane for Outlook.com’s Mail & Calendar, and is also the new Tasks for Outlook.com! With Planner’s & To-Do’s integration, we hope that To-Do will become a central hub for all of your personal tasks, and that switching to Planner to collaborate with others is seamless!
Here’s more information on the To-Do’s task experience within Outlook: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/using-microsoft-to-do-with-outlook-com-416865a1-0c4d-4e69-af6f-f98ffce3747c

A task if often starting from an email, therefore, quickly add it from outlook and then properly schedule it in planner would be really nice.
Of course, any information should be kept (as comment ?)

Still needed. Would be great to have it where the user can email the plan and it creates the Task, like Asana, Trello, etc.

My organization does not use Exchange Online, so we cannot use To-Do. This is still very much needed. Thank you!

This would be a great feature. I have used Powerautomate to do this now with flagged tasks, but it dosen't copy over sufficient detail and I end up re-keying further info. If it does convert a link to the original email in the planner task would be helpful, especially for other colleagues that were not on the original email chain

+1 to Nicole Dyehouse's comment and integration with OneNote (similar to existing OneNote integration with Outlook Tasks, but being able to assign to people)

It would be ideal if when an email is sent you could choose if it addresses a task in a Plan you are part of and if you clicked it it would let you choose the Plan and then the task so that you can update the task accordingly (add a note, attach the email, mark as in progress/complete, whatever)

Is this no longer being planned because of To-Do? We do not use To-Do or have the ability to in my organization so creating tasks from outlook to planner is still a needed feature.

Convert Outlook email into Planner tasks (associated to a Microsoft Team's channel) with a simple click / button would be of great help to business users.
Especially when an email is communicated to multiple users for a time-bound activity that require users' reply. I hope by simply a click on those related emails will create a new task or tag to existing task/bucket in Planner for monitoring purpose. Just like how this can be done in Trello.

The sooner this is implemented the better!
I tried going the Flow route, but it gets really complicated really quickly. I wanted to add any files or attachments to the plan, as we are often sent pictures that are necessary to do the task. Someone even created a Flow walk-through to do this. But I can't get it to work for me. There is NO WAY that I'm going to be able to get my whole department to go through that fight with Flow. BTW, my department IS the IT department, but most of us aren't programmers.

It must include the option to attach the original email to the task as well (or one click to access it). Often the context that is needed is right there in the mail. This is simply replacing what already exists in outlook tasks.

When generating a new Task / To-Do from an email, there should be a link back to the original email, or the original email should be attached to the new Task.

Nice idea but I would rather you worked on preventing / recovering deleted tasks instead

Any update on the convert to task for Planner? I understand To-Do has the 'flagged email' integration, but this is for an individual user and can't show in Planner. It's been over a year since this was marked as scheduled.

This would be a really useful feature. It's great that I can create a To Do task for myself from my Outlook Inbox (via Flagged E-Mail) that has a link to the e-mail (I use Outlook web).
Being able to create a planner task as from an e-mail would be great for tasks which come in via e-mail to a single person, but which need to be added to a Groups Planner Board for action.

Yes! This is what Planner needs :-) Very happy to see this finally being implemented.
Edit: upon reading the article you link to, I noticed this is now only available for personal MS accounts. When will this be available for work accounts? Seems like that's the group most in need of this feature.

While converting and Email to task is important, I think it is more important to directly tie OneNote into Planner. Onenote is used to gather detail team meeting note, and during that time Task are regularly generated and converting them after the meeting is time consuming and wasteful.
My Dream use case would be:
1. Team Meeting Notes in OneNote
2. Highlight some text in OneNote, right click, Convert to Task Planner
3. Task is created in planner, Task Status icon added next to text in OneNote
4. When status changes in planner the onenote status icon is updated
