Mass Delete of Completed Tasks but Keep Plan
It would be nice to be able to mass delete all completed Tasks within a Plan. As Tasks are checked off, and new Tasks added to the Plan, overtime the Completed Tasks build up. I'm still using the Plan, but want to clear out the Completed Tasks. Just like in Google Keep, you can mass delete all completed items.

Click 'List' (Top right of screen). Select a task, hit Ctrl + A to select all, click the '...' option from the menu at the top of the screen, click Delete. Note: This will delete ALL tasks. If you only want to delete completed tasks, you will need to use the filter or only select the completed tasks.

Can't move tasks to a new bucket if they were automatically assigned to you via Power Automate with no association to a bucket. Power Automate accidentally assigned me over 1,000 tasks and now I can't mass Complete them or mass Delete them. They will be there for-ev-er.

I used the following method which works well when the number of deleted tasks is far in excess of the number of live tasks. For each bucket, create a new bucket and transfer only the open tasks into that bucket. Then delete the old bucket and its associated 1 million completed tasks ! Easy and quick. The rename all your new buckets to suit

Hello, Check out Apps4.Pro Manager I use this to mass delete completed task every other month. I create a backup first, which this app also does. I use the backup excel file to create amazing charts in Power BI.
It also has an Outlook add in to convert any email with attachments to a Planner task.

I think it's a shame that there is a limit to the number of tasks in Planner. In larger companies in particular, there can be many tasks for some people. Please increase the limit or ideally remove it completely. thank you

We store all out tasks in SharePoint Lists so that it can be easily downloaded or used within Power BI. However, we have just hit our task limits for our plan so need to delete those in Planner as they are not needed anymore as the data is elsewhere.

I have a workaround for this really important need of a bulk delete feature.
We create and delete hundreds of tasks per day. Using a free Chrome browser tool for GUI automation, iMacros, you can record yourself deleting one task at the top of a column, then loop and play the macro and delete 99 tasks at a time in a few seconds. There are two caveats:
1) After you record the macro, before saving, you have to delete the line that reloads the Microsoft Teams web page.
2) This tool can be dangerous, whereby if new tasks come in and change your view, you could automate deleting the wrong tasks. In order to prevent this, first set your task filter to only select items from a single column of your view (e.g. low priority tasks ready for deletion). That way, if new tasks come in they will not add new frames and confuse the macro.
It is all a bit clunky, hence the need for a proper feature. However, if you are deleting hundreds of tasks a day as I am, this could save hours of your life from such drudgery.

Mike, The Completed bucket is a system filter and as such cannot be deleted. Dammit.
I have a plan that we use to track daily AV support requests and can grow by 4-5 entries a day. After using the tool for several months now the Completed list is building up and I am seeing delays as Planner rebuilds the views.
Adding a simple process option to deleted completed tasks based on date, bucket or some other filter would be a godsend.

I believe I was able to delete the Completed bucket without issues. The three ... that appear next to buckets have the option. After you delete your bucket, make a new bucket with the same name. I would recommend that you export the Planner to an excel for record keeping before the delete. Also, if you happen to use flow, you can also do many operations (except delete) (^_^)/. For example during a set of tests I ended up with 100's of unassigned tasks. The unassigned tasks are only visible if you added them to a bucket OR select filter to "assign" and the unassigned will show. Knowing this, I made a bucket called delete and then made a flow to move all the unassigned tasks to the delete bucket. Then I deleted the bucket. ... I just read the thread, and agree, we need a selection filter and delete option.

I am about to retire in 5 years. Perhaps until then Microsoft will enable mass deletion for tasks in Planner. I know this Batch Deletion is not a priority because it does not improve user's productivity. Why would they spend their time adding batch deletion to Microsoft Planner, when they are focusing time, money and human resources to work on enabling emojis in Outlook, which they rolled out in June 2019. Emojis are much more important than Batch Deletion! I had today to delete 237 Planner tasks manually one by one. That is why I am posting here. To tell everybody that at the end I was happy because I could send an email to the concerned team notifying about the task deletion and add an emoji at the end of the communication. Even so, I may live to see mass Task deletion available in Microsoft Planner. Sorry for my rant, but I am bearing MS since Office 3.1. By the way anybody saw my denture around?

This is a huge Planner limitation. We created a number of flows to create daily tasks for one of our clients retail operation. They loved the routine daily reminders until they stopped working when the number of tasks assigned to a user was exceeded. With no easy mass delete option, we had to blow away the plan buckets and reinitialize all the flows with the new bucket id to get things working again. We'll have to do this once every month. Microsoft needs to provide a flow, powershell or some mechanism to delete or purge old tasks.

So frustrating this is not possible, Im using planner to manage incidents. It would be very useful if we could apply retention rules so automatically delete completed tasks over a certain age.

Yes, the ability to mass delete tasks is crucial. I tried to set up a Flow and it created a circular issue where it kept creating duplicate tasks. Now my plan has over 200 of the same task. The Flow I was trying to create would add a task to Planner and Outlook.

Instead of completing tasks with a tick, we have a 'Completed' bucket which we move tasks to. Then every so often you can delete and re-create the bucket and it will delete all tasks.

This would be great and to be honest, I can't believe there is no way to select multiple tasks and perform actions on them (like delete, update, move).
