Option to create custom fields for tasks
How it works: In the planner settings, you can create and customize the field and then select which projects it will be available, including the "all projects" option. Each task created now will have the new custom fields avaliable inside the card.

We’d like to add custom columns to Planner, but don’t have anything planned at this time. We’re working on three big initiatives that are landing later this year (stay tuned!) and will likely start work on recurring tasks soon after.
Please continue to vote as we utilize UserVoice heavily to order our product backlog and will adjust regularly if things change!

Unbelievable the tool doesn't have this functionality
We've been hoping to switch over our Kanban boards out of Trello for months but are unable to without this basic upgrade!

I looked at this Jan 2019. What a nice product (simple and free with O365), and then went to try and extend it for real world use. Nothing. So abandoned. Looking again because business asked again and I had forgot but vaguely remembered this issue. Tried again and just like it was in Jan 2019. I think Microsoft is scared this will cut into Microsoft Project or third party partners because this should already have been done.

Announcing Custom Fields for your tasks
More than 4 years ago this is already being asked for and a small 7000 users want this extension as well. To my amazement this has already been implemented after 1 year in Project fort he Web. (The same team that also works for Planner).

You can now create local custom fields for your tasks!
Under the “Add Column” button in the grid, you’ll find a new menu option to create a New Field. Click it!
- Add dates, numbers, text, and flags to help you organize your work
-Filter tasks by the contents of your fields
-If you have limited screen real estate, edit the values for fields in the task details pane -

This is a good idea. Planner is a great tool but the custom field's would be a great improvement and would encourage more use of the tool. People have different projects and requirements so the customization would help.

I'm just starting to use Planner. I immediately started searching for an option to add custom task fields (in my case, for multiple reviews). I'm quite shocked this hasn't been addressed. Planner Team: please advise!

We all plan projects in different ways and very few people will use planner and teams in the same way, I'm staggered that there aren't any fields to add and customise. I am trying to implement planner with teams for my company and at the moment it's a bit like a square peg in a round hole. with a couple of fields that we could add and customise, it would make it so much better.

It should be possible to import and export data into these custom fields using Power automate.

Our Audit Prep Team would like to use Planner for managing all their tasks each year, but need to have fields for additional dates; not only when items are due to the Finance Dept, but when they need to be sent to Auditors. Being able to add custom fields would allow us to meet this requirement.

Any news on this? I can see there are a lot of requests for this - you can add my vote for this, as we have recently adopted 365 but won't be able to use Planner unless it has the ability to create custom fields.
Like Eneas, we need the ability to capture 'custom' (value) data and then be able to report on it.

I would like to be able to use planner for non-conformance tracking: generate a reference number, instead of "comments" box; several boxes with customisable titles eg "description of issue" , "corrections", then have a due date and owner for each of those actions, as well as for "corrective actions" ie instead of status only not starter, WIP and complete, to be able to add/edit these
