Everything should be well organized - take an example from http://gumroad.com/hookupgeek/p/how-to-avoid-scammers-in-a-dating-world

Related to the requests for Gannt charts, sub tasks AND dependencies. Lots of need for all of these and it's what keeps me using Task lists.

this would be helpful to have a start date kick off when the previous task is done.

Please search the existing ideas which mirror this one and vote for that instead of creating a new idea; then your additional votes add weight to the original idea!

Stef's comment and link are spot on. Conditional tasks are NOT coming. See post on 11/10/17 for link to Ignite statement.

I suggest combining this proposal with the following:
Combined, the two proposals have more than 3000 votes.

It seems to me that a preferred solution would allow for both, subtasks and conditional tasks in the same intuitive interface:

This would be very helpful. Even a simple addition to the dropdown for Start Time which is Task Dependent and allows you to pick the dependent task would be very helpful as a first step. You then then implement all of the other task dependency types at a later time.

I agree - task dependency is a must.

This Feature would be great as I'm trying to have my team track a multi step task.

I think this all leads to defining workflows in Planner - a useful function no doubt, but it has to be done in a very simple and straightforward manner.

Task dependency is a must. Notifications should be sent to the next task when the dependent task is completed so that they know they can start their work.

I like this idea, but I think at a basic level it would be nice if you cant start task x without task y first being completed. But yes it would be nice to also auto-assign a task as soon as another task is complete

possibly this functionality is a extension of using ms project with planner?

As well there should be "blocking" tasks or dependent tasks. Tasks that if not completed some or all of the downstream tasks are unable to be completed. In my particular case "Order server" blocks me from "Installing the OS" or "Installing the Application" and I am waiting on one person to do their job so I can do mine.

Either assigned when another task is completed or pre-assigned but not shown as tasked until the task that is required to be completed first is actually completed.
Often (normally) the tasking is pre-determined when the project is planned. I don't want to have the project flow interrupted by actually having to assign a task when a required predecessor task is completed.
For example, a particular task may be followed by someone validating the work. I already know who is going to do that, I just don't want the task showing up in their to-do list of tasks before the preceding task is complete AND I don't want to make it some sort of implied task to assign the following task. It should all flow automatically.
If you could see upcoming work that hasn't yet been actively tasked to you, great.
