Do not send email notifications by default. Be able to switch these on/off per card depending on field update

Thanks for everyone’s patience on this item. We’ve completed our first item in this space. We now set Task Activity Email Notifications (Assign and Complete) to Off By Default. Plan/Group owners can turn this setting on/off in the “Edit Plan” dialog.
We still have additional work planned in this area such as providing more granular controls to which activities will trigger notifications and more control over cases where you’ve been assigned tasks.
Thanks again for the feedback!

Any updates to this? The number of emails this programs generates makes it unworkable. Need the assigned person to get the notification only not the whole group.

Do you have a timeline for configurable per-plan notifications?

This is a big problem - when can we expect a function that will send nitrification only to the person it is assigned to an a option to send e-mail to creator of the task.

So I agree this is annoying that emails are sent out for everything by default, but to go around it I setup rules in outlook to move all emails to a subfolder in my inbox to keep it from flooding my space....that will work for now but makes it hard to weed through the important stuff with a glance at my email....

So after ensuring that all subscriptions are off, and using Planner personally to keep track of projects, I have a member of my team respond to an e-mail that has been sent out by the system - he's been receiving every single update to his inbox for anything that he's assigned to.
This is unacceptable! Not only do we seem to have NO CONTROL over this feature, there's also no indication to me that these mails are even being sent out before it's too late! I am VERY keen to use this tool, but I will immediately alienate all my users if this activity continues!
Can you please provide some kind of timeline as to when you expect this incessant spam 'feature' to be turned off/under control?

Can't believe you all just rolled this out by default to everyone with all these obvious features missing... Please provide an update on disabling notifications as this is giving everyone a very bad first experience with this tool.

Any update on this item? I was really hoping this would have been completed by now.

How about an _option_ to send a mail when you make changes? I would like to keep the option of sending one out when I assign a task, but not for every single change to one.
I also get an e-mail myself for every single change I make, as well as the group receiving one - and I am not subscribed to the plan so this shouldn't happen at all - it's all far too messy/noisy.
Also they are in Times New Roman - who uses Times New Roman any more?!

Has the change been implemented yet? (the one that is mentioned by the planner team for this week)
I've got a lot of groups that are waiting for this so they can start using the planner. -

Happy to see some updates from the Planner team. Thanks.
Another user and I observed something that seems like changed behavior with notifications. Perhaps this is part of the improvements, or it's been here all along and I haven't been observant before? :)
The other user is not Subscribed to the plan, but I've assigned tasks to him. He gets email notifications whenever an update is made to any of the tasks assigned to him, but he gets no other email from the plan. When he is Subscribed to the plan, he gets all mail sent to the plan.
I can see how it could be handy to minimize the email chatter between the person who created a task and the person the task is assigned to, but I'd like to see functionality whereby anyone who chooses to comment on a task gets subscribed to that task.
It would also be useful to be able to send out broadcast messages to everyone on a plan, regardless of whether they are subscribed to the plan. Not knowing who has unsubscribed is frustrating, so I have to go outside of the tool and send an email to everyone I know is a member of the plan, from Outlook.
Thanks.

Agree. You need to make notification changes. I can't even find a way to turn off notifications.

Good call; this would drive me nuts very quickly. Email notifications should almost always be opt-in.

I have now stopped using this great tool as a direct consequence of this. Please fix urgently

Absolutely, nothing is more annoying that a blast of emails when the entire purpose of a collaborative tool is to get away from useless emails. Team members should be using the tool to see what their tasks out, not digging through emails.

Agreed. this stopped me from using planner immediately. at least allow an option to prevent Group spamming!

Get rid of it, its very counter-productive in an efficient business environment

It would be a redundant feature if Tasks could be linked to Outlook (desktop) and ideally opened by MS Project as well

yup... email notification for every update/ change in planner can be a disturbance for all members.
