Do not send email notifications by default. Be able to switch these on/off per card depending on field update
Thanks for everyone’s patience on this item. We’ve completed our first item in this space. We now set Task Activity Email Notifications (Assign and Complete) to Off By Default. Plan/Group owners can turn this setting on/off in the “Edit Plan” dialog.
We still have additional work planned in this area such as providing more granular controls to which activities will trigger notifications and more control over cases where you’ve been assigned tasks.

Wait so team members can't decide if they want to receive the emails or not? It has to be a global setting? Ah jeez.
Absolutely, annoying as h*ll, i've just created 326 boards for a document library and every single individual create/edit/marked complete has been emailed out to my members. Complaints coming in thick and fast. Get a solution.....NOW!!!!

Wrong. We are still getting spammed by emails every time a change is made to a task. We need all emails to be optional. We have only been using Planner for a few hours and already the emails getting sent out automatically is becoming a problem. We need to be able to disable the option of sending emails. I should only receive emails when someone else changes a task that I am working on. My manager should only receive emails if they opt in to receive them.
This was horrible feedback.
I want users to know when they have a task assigned to them.
The default should be "on", and users can unsubscribe if they want.
is there are solution to this stupid problem given by Microsoft????? No wonder all of Microsoft tools have these bummers here and there, thumbs down to dumb heads who are unable to think a tool properly through.

Same issue as below - uncheck box only applies while working within same browser session in which you unchecked it. Close browser, reopen edit dialogue and checkbox is ticked again and notifications enabled...

I uncheck the box so that notifications do not send however the platform does not save the setting and it is checked consistently. Could Microsoft please look into this.
this is not even close to what we need. now when a task is assigned to someone, they dont get an email. not very productive. this change does nothing. might as well unsubscribe to notificaitons completely than check that box.
Well I hope the development teams learn from this mistake, do not put exact dates/times in any kind of response on uservoice. Unless of course you actually know you can make that date. The fact that over 1 month later we still don't have any update on this shows how poor the communication is both amongst the team and with customers. Sad that this 'tool' already left a very poor impression on my teams and they have no interest in using it now
Cannot we just set an 'inbox and sweep rules' for all mails generated due to planner activity? I just tried and it worked.
I thought the option of unsubscribing from a plan solved this issue.

I have to say that it is amazing that developing and releasing a tool that has this type of brain dead flaw is mind boggling. It took about 3 hours for my department colleagues to receive a blizzard of unnecessary and confusing emails from a single test "plan". In addition, to not have a task that is assigned to you appear on your calendar is, well, dumb. Please take this dumpster fire back to development and rethink the tool.
Is there an update from the Planner Team? they noted an update next week and its currently the end of next week.
The current configuration appears to be that if the "Subscribe Members" is ON all members of the plan get all email updates. If it is OFF (as current default) than no one gets email updates, even if a task is assigned to a member. The only exception being that emails are sent when members are added to a plan. I'm not sure it has been this was from the start. I thought you would get an email if a task was assigned to you even if you were not subscribed to the plan.
Looking forward to the update noted by the Planner Team.
My team will not use Planner until it stops emailing the entire group/plan by default for every new task.

Any updates on the notifications controls? We were all set to implement here but held off due to the flood of unneeded, distracting emails generated during testing.
Microsoft needs to get better at showing how far along these requests are besides just saying 'Started'. This is a huge issue and is preventing me and many others from rolling this out to their companies. Even worse, the people who are trying it (like my boss) are getting really bad first impressions which are never easy to change. I think you need to be much more communicative on timing with this new 'agile' development model you are using (where you roll out new apps with gaping issues and default them to on for everyone......sigh)

So did you plan on the delivery taking this long. This product is going to improve my life no end, but this lack of control on notifications we distract and put my team off using it... When will it be updated? Just a timeframe to manage expectations would be great...
