A linked task or subtask is truly a necessary missing feature of being able to use Planner effectively.

Subtasks are definitely necessary in order to use it as a professional managing tool. I would say, it is important as much as the assignment option.

I'll add my voice to this. . . being able to add sub-tasks to existing tasks is NECESSARY.
checklist is nice but i need the full task features (assign to, due date, start date, etc) here and not just a list of items to be completed -

With 2500+ votes and 190+ comments one would expect this to be at least in the planning phase after nearly 5 years.

we are also just switching to MS Teams and thought we could cover our Task assignment with it too but this is basically useless without subtasks that can be assigned independantly. will probly stick with the freeware that I am using right now that can cover all those basics.

Additionally, the ability to assign sub-tasks to others in the team.

Just for grins, I just tried to move my task planning to planner. Got stuck on the very first task without being able to create sub-tasks. Any planning app without sub-tasks is an absolute non-starter. I honestly find it hard to believe that you have customers that can use this app without it!

I don't understand why I would have to fill up a UserVoice Form to get what is obvious to get from a "Planner" App.
Buckets doesn't cut it mainly because it looks like Scrum behavior but it not everybody that uses that kind of thinking when we manage projects and everyday tasks have to be simple.
I use ToDoist and when I was about to move to Microsoft 365 Planner, I started by doing some tests before I migrate but when I saw that a simple Sub-Task cannot be done, I closed the project.
You get my email address so when you want users to use planner as it should work, contact me and I'll see if its worth the try but for now, I'm getting back to my ToDoist.
ToDoist is really more than "Tasks" inside Outlook and it can be not only connected but also incorporated to Outlook and be seen on all devices.
Its just that I pay 48$CAN (4$CAN/month) and it would be free if it was part of Microsoft planner.
Features :
Sub-Tasks
Single Due Dates
Recurring Due Dates
Geo-Localization with Notification when you have a task to do at a specific area or place
Sections to divide Topics for parts of projects so you can group projects and tasks -
