Time tracking for cards
Track the time spent on each card by each member that worked on it would be very useful, further with reports to easily consume this information.
Besides, if tasks were imported from Project (where work hours should be set by task)... time input could help to calculate the completion status.
It could be as easy as adding a time (number) and maybe type of time (billable, non-billable) to each comment added.
Please add so we can get away from spreadsheets this tool captures everything we need except time
Would be great if this happened!
Please bump up the list very important functionality to include!

I might have a solution for you.
We had the same problem and didn't find a satisfying solution.
So we started building our own: ScreenAware.
For now it's "just" time tracking. We will add connections to billing services soon and maybe in the future even offer our own billing service.
The idea is that once you have set it up (which won't take long), it will track your time and automatically assign it to your projects. So you don't ever have to hit start/stop buttons or fill in time sheets at the end of the day or week. You just work.
With the automatic tracking and project recognition, ScreenAware is able to report the time worked on a project with much more accuracy. It won't ever forget to hist start, it won't ever estimate when you began a task or ended it. And it will track all work for your projects, including writing emails, billing, meetings and so on.
The basic technology for tracking screen time is already done. Right now we just need to tweak a bit the project recognition and improve our dashboard/report frontend.
For that we're looking for beta users that will help us to figure out what's the right thing to build. After all, we don't want to have a solution just for us - we want a solution for a lot of people (and earn some money in the process :) ).
If you are interested in joining the beta program, just send me a message or sign up at https://app.screenaware.com/#/welcome and start tracking your time automatically.

Agree that time tracking will be a huge value add to the tool set along with easy reporting or dashboard functionality in either Planner or Teams.
Agree with comments below. Please integrate time tracking and report functionality.
This is really a need to do a proper followup of the tasks . In case of a personal planning it provides an overview on how you are managin your time, and this could also be used as simple replacement of work followup tool of Visual Studio Online which of course already provides this functionallity.
Do not know why time tracking is not already a feature, so basic a need.

Is very important for me this feature.
The baked in ability to produce a burn down chart would seal the deal on the adoption of this (the way Trello + addins do today, only less hokey). Having to keep track of time separately is a pain, and start and due dates don't account for actual work required.

Time tracking would be a huge draw for me to use Planner more vs Excel sheets and Project plans. As a manager for an IT consulting company tracking hours budgeted vs used is a huge part of my job when you're held accountable for every hour spent.
In addition to just storing the data, reporting is also important. It wouldn't make sense to put estimates and actuals on multiple projects if I can't see at a high level how things are going.

With this functionality I can manage the time for each team member to balance their work, understand work load, estimate better for planning individual activities, futures projects or work packages.
Please urgently add time tracking for tasks, as well as time sheets => reportings.
Definitely a must have. We are considering developing a solution by ourselves while just we need is planner with time registration and export capability...
Estimated and actual effort fields are very important even at the team level
This is something Planner needs to be a more complete system. Almost everything I can find out there is geared towards a platform for billing customers. I need a system which will say that Person A performed this task and spent 2 hours working on it. If this can then link to Power BI, status reports can be a thing of the past.

Would be ideal if each task could be assigned a field for estimated effort and actual effort, and then a dashboard view showing each Project Member expended effort.
