How can we improve Planner?

Time tracking for cards

Track the time spent on each card by each member that worked on it would be very useful, further with reports to easily consume this information.

Besides, if tasks were imported from Project (where work hours should be set by task)... time input could help to calculate the completion status.

Time tracking is the one major item missing from Planner that has kept my organization from using Planner more. We've instead turned to Wrike (which integrates nicely with O365 - MS Teams specifically), to get this functionality. Being able to track estimated time and actual time spent is critical for software companies like mine as it aids in getting work done, recognizing revenue, evaluating resource needs, determining profitability of projects, etc. Having an option to add time for anyone that spends time on a task to see cumulative time spent is a must have for Planner to become an acceptable option for my organization. It would also help to have dashboards and reports available to help view this information so you have a pictorial view of what's outstanding and what has been completed at present. Being able to filter down to see items such as how much time is spent on a task type or for a specific client so you know when the hour allotment surpassed, helps prevent using tools outside of the Microsoft O365 suite. I'm happy to share more if desired; however, this feature has strong demand and would make Planner viable for many businesses that utilize alternatives due to lack of this functionality availability.

Hi, I would like to add my support for adding time tracking functionality to MS Planner.

        Regards,

Planner is a nice tool but I miss a lot of time tracking. When this is implemented, Planner is much more applicable for companies where time tracking is necessary.

Best practices in project management definitely involve time estimation (previous) and a set of time tracking records (the actual time spent by asignees)

A great plus of Trello is the integration with Toggl, it would be great to have such a similar tool also in Planner

Time tracking is also essential for our teams. We create measures and metrics for each card and compile them into our epics and features.

We need to be able use this for Agile - a bit like Jira, but better! Ability to set an overall time unit as part of the project config, so that estimate time effort can be assigned to tasks and sub tasks. Also the ability to link tasks and have effort cumulated to Story or Main task level would be good. The ability for people to either log effort or effort remaining would be useful. If you could also add a burndown chart that would be awsome!

We need to further plan within a day to micromanage tasks during working hours. Prioritizing and dependencies will have a greater impact on tasks and without time management, we won't be able to execute the plan.

Only with this can it any way compete with the likes of Jira - there is no ability right now to get an overview of workload across a team.

I am using Apps4pro planner manager app which allows to create custom fields like this in planner tasks and generate reports based on this. It worked great for me.

Yes, please, along with a field for "estimated time" so that we can measure where we are in relation to the estimate.

This is a great added value for Planner.
Please implement this because it has a high added value.
