+1 The inability to import plan templates makes the Planner basically useless for any organization with any sort of detailed recurring tasks.

I need to import data from a file (.csv or .xlsx) into Planner (each item into one task in Planner).

It'd be greatly simplified to migrate from Trello if I could export to csv and import it to Planner

Come on Microsoft!
Why is it not possible to import from your own products (*.csv or *.xlsx) into Planner?
Now we have to resort to other parties products to get your stuf going. -

I want to use planner to manage lots of similar projects so a template of tasks or the ability to copy one would be good.
Also, the ability to import task lists from excel would be great as my current task lists are in excel and I don't want to have to re enter this list of hundreds of tasks ever let alone more than once! -

Provide ability to import from excel. This will accelerate adoption where people can retire Action item tracking from excel sheets to planner.

creation of tasks in Planner from an excel file in SharePoint team site would be most helpful

We have the same issue as the first commenter on this thread. We currently use Asana, and there is no way we are going to convince everyone to manually move their projects and tasks manually. We need some way to migrate the entire system over before we can even consider this. Many members of the team really want to start using planner due to some functionality it has that Asana does not have, but we can't force the entire team to move just because some want to until we can move it for them.

Our IT Dept. is working on moving our entire team out of Asana for small project/task management, and into Planner. The biggest hurdle is convincing everyone to move their hundreds (or even thousands) of tasks and projects from Asana into Planner. At present, this all has to be done manually.
We can already export our project lists from Asana in CSV/Excel format. If Planner had an import feature, we could re-arrange the Asana CSV to match Planner's fields, and be done with this in mere hours.
Instead, we're herding cats, trying to convince everyone that the light on the other side is better than staying the course... This is a MAJOR barrier to adoption.

Microsoft folks: can we please consolidate these two threads into this one, which already has 228+ votes (it would add another 100+ votes)

Is there a plan to implement this functionallity in the near future?

Is there a timeframe when the ability to import tasks into planner, is expected? This has a considerable weight on our organization's plans around this product. This really is a requirement for most of our projects.

iPlanner Excel can both get tasks and push tasks back to a Plan https://store.office.com/en-001/app.aspx?assetid=WA104380686

Is there any way to import, if not a CSV? Trello offered copy and paste options, API and a Zapier integration http://help.trello.com/article/751-importing-data-into-trello

Importing tasks from Excel would save a ton of time. Otherwise, we have to copy the information from an existing spreadsheet.

I only need import from Excel to begin with. Save MS project and Visual Studio Online for later.

Other ERP systems can export data in standard formats, such as excel so having an import function is really essential to make the MS planner competitive.
