Gantt chart view
I want to be able to make tasks dependent on other tasks, and see them in a Gantt chart view.
We recently announced and rolled out the new Microsoft Project, which was designed specifically to help teams of all sizes collaborate on projects more efficiently and achieve more together. It was designed to be simple and powerful, so that anyone can get started quickly and take control of any project – regardless of its size – right away.
The new Microsoft Project has been redesigned. You can see your tasks on a Gantt chart (“Timeline”) view, a Board view (similar to Planner’s), and a Grid view, both requested from many of our Planner users. I encourage you to look at the links below and the attached GIF for a sneak peak.
With this, we also rolled out a new subscription plan called “Project Plan 1” that allows you to start quickly and manage projects easily via the web browser.
Thanks everyone for your patience, I encourage you to check out the new Project, and even start a trial to see if it’s right for you!
The Project and Planner team
Could you please confirm whether the addition of Gantt charts is still in the works for Planner? Project for the Web lacks the Calendar functionality and just does not suit the needs of our users. Could you please confirm whether we should remain hopeful or move along?
totally agree with most of the Gantt requests for PLANNER. Planner is far easier to use and Project is plain overkill just to have a Gantt view that SharePoint has had for decades.

Agree with the other comments. Happy to pay a bit more for Planner Pro, but Project is completely the wrong solution. Project does not integrate as well as Planner, is too hard to use and is not suitable for the way we work.
PLEASE add a Gantt chart view and dependency system to Planner and then take our money.
This is a cop out answer that does nothing for those of us on Macs.
Did anyone try Apps4Pro for this purpose? @Microsoft: happy to try your solution once it's there! (Please do come up with it at some point, I fully agree with the contributions below)
The previous post from 2019 mentioned Gantt feature would be available "later this year". It's 2020 and we still don't see a roll out of this feature on Planner. Did she mean later in 2020? We need gantt view soooo bad. I'm in a trial for Project 1 and really feel I don't need this when I have everything in planner. I just need gantt and only wish I could do it all in one platform. Any updates?

we need Gant view in PLANNER . make it Planner PRO if you want with a fee. but project plan 1 lacks a lot of the planner features that are not compensated the few additions
Gantt view should be added. Even if it is based on start and end date vs dependancies. I get if you need to make tasks dependent on each other, get a Project License. Do the right think MS Product Team. You may also provide an upgrade path for planner or be able to migrate plans. If this already exists, good work!

I think the users have great ideas contributing to making this product amazing but it seems that the MS Planner team has different ideas. It is so clear what the users want but it seems that the decision was made top-down. This change does not help me at all, and I do not see how the brilliant MS Planner team sees it differently.
Agree with most of the comments below. Planner is good but could be so much better. I may even look at paying the extra for the organisation but not with a different product that doesn't integrate with To-do, my current plans etc etc. MSoft need to come clean here and either say not possible or not on the roadmap rather than offering a product that doesn't address the original idea from Robert Mclaws (at the top)

I just activated «project for the web» on my tenant and I do not understand why it has a different set of features. There are dependencies between tasks and Gant charts but no sub tasks or to-do integration. I do not see how I can view my tasks.
Why is it a separate product. If you wanted us to pay more, it could have been a Planner Pro with more features, not another non integrated set of tasks. Please help us DRIVING adoption not DIVIDING it.
It seems obvious that a Gantt-view and integration to the other tools such as List, To-Do and Teams would be a killer functionality to Planner. I don't see the reason to jump to yet another product just for this functionality alone. Everything else is already there in Planner for us!?

Ouch, wrong move. Trying to champion Planner for our enterprise and we keep getting knocked back by these silly decisions.
MS you really need to look at Wrike and see where they're going right (ie a comprehensive interlinked suite of tools) as currently you're offering a bunch of dissonant apps that don't coherently work together to work effectively.
No Gannt Chart, our company has no use for an underdeveloped tool, time to look elsewhere to spend the office 365 money., simple.
I use project libre.....
even if its just for the Gannt's
so useful i like it
So the headline is "How can we make Planner better" and the reply is "we don't want to make it better, we want you to buy something else"? Sad.

So frustrated with this decision. I am trying to champion using Planner at my company. My CEO's main ask is to have a Gannt view and because of this we are back to using an excel sheet. The excel sheet is a very manual process and does not include many of the features that are already available in Planner. I have a few licenses for Project that some of our project managers have but we cannot afford an additional $10 per month per user just to have this view. Because of this it is forcing us to have work arounds that are very difficult to have processes around. It drives us away from using Microsoft products to where at some point we will just end up going with other providers because the total cost for the features that we use will be less. This one is a simple ask. Just provide the Gannt view in planner and associated tasks. It was being worked on but pulled because you wanted everyone to license project. We are not going to overkill our license's with Project to enable this.

It is crazy to see the deprecation/lack of ability to effectively use the gantt view in the old web part of lists (TASKS) in a useful way and then introduce planner which has some great features but then to throw another subscription our way just does not seem ethical. You had a feature in SharePoint Lists which is being orphaned, now pushed us to planner and then try to sell MS Project which I love but isn't the right way to approach this as many of us are saying.

This is insane. Make this priority or kill Planner and integrate Project into Teams.
