Provide the ability to create Plan templates with existing tasks that can then be used to create a new plan
Rather than having to create every plan from scratch it would be good if the system allowed for the creation of Templates with pre-existing tasks (like in Word/Excel). This would allow a new plan and its tasks to be created from a template saving a lot of time.
Thank you for your patience. We have updated our Copy Plan experience – please try it out today!
This improvement will include the ability to choose an existing group or team to copy the plan into (or choose to create a new group). You’ll also be able to customize what gets copied over. Attachments can only be copied over into existing groups.
Have this implemented by Ignite the Tour in Amsterdam (11&12 march) and get a free hug! We need this badly!

Really need the ability to copy a plan template to another existing Team/O365 group.
I would like the ability to after creation of a task, being able to assign it a predefined template of things, such as multiple sub tasks lists.

We do not want users to be able to create O365 groups themselves. When they want to copy a plan, they are told that administrators do not allow them to create an O365 group. They are therefore unable to duplicate a plan by copy and paste, nor can they create a plan without joining it to an O365 group.
Has this initiative been finalized? This would be a huge help
I would like to ask, is there a feature were I can export my Tasks with the fields and then input data creating new tasks in excel? Hence then import the new tasks, to Planner?

We sell systems about 5 types of systems that are then all customized for each customer. I would like to create Templates of each type of system and then have the Plan there in place for provisioning each system type. We have Channels defined for each of the customer systems and have only been able to copy the individual tasks over to the existing Channel.
We don't want data sprawl and have a ton of random plans at the root of the teams/groups.

I would like to use planner as a site scheduler. I would need the ability to have a template that includes space to answer questions such as 1. what vehicles, 2. how many easels, 3. how many tables/chairs, 4. do you need a monitor, 5. do you need the sound system. It would be EXCELLENT if we could view these answers without having to open each event. We have many events in 1 week and would like the overall coordinator to have a way to see every event and their notes for the week without having to open each event to see the notes.

Any updates on this?
Need to be able to create a true copy of a plan that isn't linked to original plan.

Pretty simple, you have templates you make to create tasks. This is often for repeating tasks, or tasks that will have triggers outside planner that need to be created. Makes it easy to clone/make them.
Also useful for information gathering if you want to standardize the form.

Can we get an update from an Admin? The last response was from August.

Same here, the following feature is absolutely needed:
1) Enable users to copy a plan within an existing group
Really need the feature of being able to copy a plan within an existing Teams channel.

Is it possible to get an update by the Planner Teams at least for ?
1) Enable users to copy a plan within an existing group
We really need that feature, since our group creation is disable.

While you are developing this this very interesting and needed function, it could be useful to had this functionality
I think it could be useful and very interesting to have the possibility using "planner" to have several optional choises when we make a copy of an existing plan :
1 copy only the structure
2 copy structure and also affected group members
3 Duplicate overall plan with all inputs
With my understanding, in the existing plan, already created and checked in planner environment, all inputs are "correct" (Microsoft point of view) so I think there is no issue to duplicate global or partial part of the plan.
For a service, with a define team and having standard procedures this possibility would be very interesting. A new project, Customer we duplicate the standard plan associated and launch the new activities.
Thank in advance
We have 2 massive projects each year - whose steps don't change much. Would love to be able to import our Word Document (a table with 150 + steps) into a plan. It would take a very long time to add 150 tasks by hand. And then next year, we need to copy over for the next year's run. When we copy over -- would "assigned to" copy over? if so, can we change-all George's assignments and give them to Mary, since George moved on to another project? Thank you for listening.
1) The Ability to customize default checklist items for each plan. So that different teams within the organization can have their own set of checklist items that are automatically added when a task is created.
2) Also ability to customize the "Progress" dropdown options would be nice as we have more complex stages of development than just started, in-progress, and completed. We have to resort to using a combination of that and the labels which is a little messy.
