Provide the ability to create Plan templates with existing tasks that can then be used to create a new plan
Rather than having to create every plan from scratch it would be good if the system allowed for the creation of Templates with pre-existing tasks (like in Word/Excel). This would allow a new plan and its tasks to be created from a template saving a lot of time.
Thank you for your patience. We have updated our Copy Plan experience – please try it out today!
This improvement will include the ability to choose an existing group or team to copy the plan into (or choose to create a new group). You’ll also be able to customize what gets copied over. Attachments can only be copied over into existing groups.

Copy plan to existing groups is a must-have.
Plan templates are an alternate solution since i guess most uses of copy plans are to re-create a similar plan for a recurring project type.
Hope we'll get this copy to existing group or plan templare soon!
Can I now copy a plan within an existing group? People have been requesting this functionality for a year. It's so basic and obvious that this is necessary.

Like many others, we would find a template option within a plan invaluable. We have a Power Automate Flow that extracts any client negative feedback received in Forms and places it in Planner for corrective action. Our corrective action process requires the same elements to be completed every time and adding the checklist manually increases the likelihood of human error and the correct process not being followed.
when will this update take place?
Please, having this simple feature will be a great addition to improve Planner!
Just... DO IT!
It's great to have "Copy Plan" but to have another option to make a plan into a template would be very useful!!

I'm not sure if this covers what I need. I want to have a template plan, say it is called "customer onboarding" and it is located in a Team called "Templates." When I get a new customer, say named "Smith Company," I want to create a team called "Smith Company" and I want to copy the template plan called "customer onboarding" from the Team called "Templates" to the team called "Smith Company." I then want to change and customize the plan in Smith Company team while leaving the template plan intact in the team call "Templates."
Please we need this feature...

How´s the status for this?
Please provide an update to this. We use Microsoft planner for tracking monthly accounting close process steps. 'Copy plan' feature should have option to copy members as well. We should also have the ability to assign due dates to multiple tasks at once. In the absence of the above I have to spend unproductive time of over 5 hours in assigning due date and members to EACH of the 400+ tasks every month. Please address this at the EARLIEST.
ALTERNATIVELY IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE CAN UPLOAD THE EXCEL TEMPLATE OF PLAN WITH PRE DEFINED DUE DATES AND MEMBERS. WE DESPERATELY NEED THIS!!!! LOOKING FORWARD FOR THIS UPDATE!!!
It would be nice if Microsft could provide a Planner template to deploy Microsoft Teams.
I have an IT department who want to roll out Workplace. Please provide an update.
No updates from Admin since August 2019? My organization has disabled the creation of groups by regular users, so it means we are unable to use Copy Plan feature at all until we can copy a plan to an existing group. Hoping for good news soon.

I notice that you can copy a card, so I have made our own "template" with standard checklist items. However, it's still editable so could be overwritten at anytime if someone forgets to copy it. there fore, the title of this card is "TEMPLATE - COPY ME"
Ideally, we would like to:
1) Add checklist items to a template card
2) Restrict access to editing the template checklist (so that the template doesn't get erased)
We have specific tasks with checklists that currently must be retyped every time there is a new Task added.
If I could choose a template for the new Bucket or Task it would save me lots of time.
Due dates need to be set number of weeks, months, years, from the creation date.
When a new task is added it should auto populate the start date, then the templates would add the due date based on the start date.
This really does need resolving.
The company i work for uses the full Office 365 suite including Teams and Planner would be a huge help for us to manage our customer projects. Every project we do has the same structure so being able to setup a template and copy into a fresh plan every time a new project comes online would be great.
Sadly our company has disabled the creation of groups by regular users so it means we are unable to use this feature as we need to.
Until this update is done we are completely hand tied and if it carries on much longer we'll be forced to use another software provider like Trello which does the exact same thing but allows us to do this copy feature properly.
A shame as it would be nice to keep everything common across one software provider.
Please allow to copy a plan ACROSS different groups/teams inside the same organisation!
e.g. I have a team "Build office1" and a team "Build office 2". Both could use the same plan-template. But how to get the template from Team 1 to Team 2?
It's nearly 6 months since the last update, please could we have a fresh update on what we can expect. I have customers in our business who are pressuring me to look at alternatives to Planner that might be a better fit for our requirements. This changes referenced in this post would relive a lot of pressure from that possibility.

Being able to import a planner template into Teams is crucial. Say we want to use planner for a project approach (for instance pre-sales project) and use teams to bring our resources together on a pre-sales project. Each time we start a new pre-sales project we create a new team channel and we would like to automatically include a standard project approach plan from planner. That feature would be a huge help.
