Provide the ability to create Plan templates with existing tasks that can then be used to create a new plan
Rather than having to create every plan from scratch it would be good if the system allowed for the creation of Templates with pre-existing tasks (like in Word/Excel). This would allow a new plan and its tasks to be created from a template saving a lot of time.
Thanks for your feedback on Copy plan!
We’re planning on pursuing the following improvements to copy plan:
1) Enable users to copy a plan within an existing group
2) Copy plan in Teams
Currently we are booked through November working on three BIG initiatives, but should have an update on scheduling soon after.
In the meantime, we’d love to hear how you’re currently using copy plan and any other improvements we should pursue.
Thanks again for your patience and feedback!

Could roll this out tomorrow with this feature. Could import from an Excel templated spreadsheet. Can't recommend it without it
Just started using Planner and already hit this wall. I don't use copy plan because it creates a new group every time. Let's move this up. I want to abandon the paper, email, spreadsheet system but lack of templates/copy within existing group makes using planner too inefficient.

We're way past November, Planner Team. Any update on this feature's implementation? This feature is standard in other task management apps and it would improve our adoption of MS Teams to have this ability.
Pushing 4 YEARS on this issue. (May 2016)
I've abandoned Planner altogether because of this.
IT won't come up with an alternative, so everything is paper, email and spreadsheets.

A Planner administration panel that allows us to set defaults for when plans are created would be EXCEPTIONAL. Those defaults could be edited much the same way we do today, but upon creation they are rolled out in a consistent manner.
By defaults I mean --- default bucket names, default label names... which we can edit today.... and then allow us to edit progress and priority labels and then allow us to set defaults for them in the same way through an admin panel.
For example: We consistently use an Agile methodology in our PMO, so our buckets look like this:
Small (0-3 hrs)
Medium (4-11 hrs)
Large (12-23 hrs)
Extra Large (24+ hrs)
SOMETIMES (very few times) our buckets would change to more Waterfall style -- certain projects are still done in that method -- so they could be edited to Discover, Define, Design, Develop, Deploy, Maintain. But MOST (like 90% of our plans) would use the Agile methodology above. Would be amazing to be able to roll out NEW PLANS when created with those defaults.
Labels.... we use our labels in this fashion:
We would like to set those as defaults too.
Priorities and Progress are things we would like to have the ability to edit those too, then be able to set them as defaults through an admin panel.
You might say, these are things we can do in other programs, but we LOVE PLANNER. For Agile, it's the absolute best part of Office 365 for project management. Project just does not work for us in our Agile environment, we have it, we use it occasionally, and have been using it less and less because we CANNOT really adapt it to Agile in the way we like.
We have a template for the description that mirrors what you would see as a "User Story" --- would be awesome to pre-fill that area through an Admin panel too! So new tasks could have a guide in the Description field.
Bottom line, we need an admin panel for Planner to define these things.
Copy plan to existing groups is a must-have.
Plan templates are an alternate solution since i guess most uses of copy plans are to re-create a similar plan for a recurring project type.
Hope we'll get this copy to existing group or plan templare soon!
Can I now copy a plan within an existing group? People have been requesting this functionality for a year. It's so basic and obvious that this is necessary.

Like many others, we would find a template option within a plan invaluable. We have a Power Automate Flow that extracts any client negative feedback received in Forms and places it in Planner for corrective action. Our corrective action process requires the same elements to be completed every time and adding the checklist manually increases the likelihood of human error and the correct process not being followed.
when will this update take place?
Please, having this simple feature will be a great addition to improve Planner!
Just... DO IT!
It's great to have "Copy Plan" but to have another option to make a plan into a template would be very useful!!

I'm not sure if this covers what I need. I want to have a template plan, say it is called "customer onboarding" and it is located in a Team called "Templates." When I get a new customer, say named "Smith Company," I want to create a team called "Smith Company" and I want to copy the template plan called "customer onboarding" from the Team called "Templates" to the team called "Smith Company." I then want to change and customize the plan in Smith Company team while leaving the template plan intact in the team call "Templates."
Please we need this feature...

How´s the status for this?
Please provide an update to this. We use Microsoft planner for tracking monthly accounting close process steps. 'Copy plan' feature should have option to copy members as well. We should also have the ability to assign due dates to multiple tasks at once. In the absence of the above I have to spend unproductive time of over 5 hours in assigning due date and members to EACH of the 400+ tasks every month. Please address this at the EARLIEST.
ALTERNATIVELY IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE CAN UPLOAD THE EXCEL TEMPLATE OF PLAN WITH PRE DEFINED DUE DATES AND MEMBERS. WE DESPERATELY NEED THIS!!!! LOOKING FORWARD FOR THIS UPDATE!!!
It would be nice if Microsft could provide a Planner template to deploy Microsoft Teams.
I have an IT department who want to roll out Workplace. Please provide an update.
No updates from Admin since August 2019? My organization has disabled the creation of groups by regular users, so it means we are unable to use Copy Plan feature at all until we can copy a plan to an existing group. Hoping for good news soon.
