Provide the ability to create Plan templates with existing tasks that can then be used to create a new plan
Rather than having to create every plan from scratch it would be good if the system allowed for the creation of Templates with pre-existing tasks (like in Word/Excel). This would allow a new plan and its tasks to be created from a template saving a lot of time.
Thanks for your feedback on Copy plan!
We’re planning on pursuing the following improvements to copy plan:
1) Enable users to copy a plan within an existing group
2) Copy plan in Teams
Currently we are booked through November working on three BIG initiatives, but should have an update on scheduling soon after.
In the meantime, we’d love to hear how you’re currently using copy plan and any other improvements we should pursue.
Thanks again for your patience and feedback!

"1) Enable users to copy a plan within an existing group"
Suggestion 1: During the Copy process: add a list of checkboxes. One for each field. Thereby giving granular control to the user over which fields gets copied over.
Suggestion 2: please make it a true Copy. So no links back to the original Plan

Currently we are not using "Copy Plan" at all, as we need to be able to copy within an existing group. At the moment we are manually copying tasks (or recreating them as new) when we need them. This is preventing full use of planner, which is currently really only being used as an ad-hoc to do list.
This is the single biggest thing keeping my organization from broadly utilizing Planner for project tracking. We need to be able to copy previous plans, ideally with the ability to use spreadsheets to set up and modify the plans. Even better would be ability to source tasks from a spreadsheet view in a Sharepoint list to enable custom reporting and integration with other reporting approaches.

We need the ability to create a single plan template and duplicate it for each of our 20+ client projects. Each plan needs to have the same tasks (hence a template), but the plans need to be independent of each other. This is an urgent must-have in order for us to use Planner and Teams. team
Any update on this ability ?
I have the need to have Plan templates to use in Teams so that each project starts with the same buckets and tasks.
Currently copying a plan in teams links the new and template plan together so that changing the new plan assignments, dates or status changes the same in the template. If the new plan is deleted it then also deletes the template plan. It seems to be a "mirror" rather than a copy even though the new plan name can be changed. There needs to be no link between them after the copy.
Need to be able to "Add to an existing Office 365 Group" when making a copy of a plan.
My IT dept. is going nuts about creating new groups with every plan.

Right now we are using planner as a way of documenting maintenance of our customer's railway wagons.
Right now, we have all our maintenance work, regardless of customer, in the same internal team.
However, one of our customer wants access to the data, which means we need to have a separate Team for this customer only (for privacy).
This means that we want to be able to copy a plan, with all its contents, tasks, comments and well, everything within that planner-board.
We need the comments also since that is where we post when something has been done on the wagons, a sort of "Wagon history" for every specific wagon.
If I want to get everything over, I need to summarize all the comments in the description of every "wagon card"/task and the copy it over.
That will take a very long time
Could this be a feature implemented in the future?

The generation of pre-populated task lists from Flow is a good feature....!

This is our single biggest pain point in our usage of planner today.

This cannot be implemented fast enough. It is slowing down departmental adoption of Teams and holding back its full potential. Please get this sorted in 2019. Thanks in advance.
The ability to generate a pre-populated task list from Flow is why I'm here - that and the free buffet :)

Suggestion: Can we have a set default template, when ever a task is created it will have some stuff in the description, some checklists items etc..
There should be an option to use an exisitng task as a default template to create a new task so we don't have to copy it every time, we just set it once and all the new tasks are using that as a template.
Suggestion: Company-Wide Plan Templates section with button on left bar, then when clicking on the desired plan template see an option to "Create New Plan from Template on Which Group?" and show a group selector. Hopefully it's done soon. Multiple customers we moved into an all Office365 Ecosystem unhappy they have to create a new plan for every project, wasting time on repetitive tasks. They are considering moving back to other tools.

Copy plan is great, but need a way to make the base plan one that users can’t change, like a template. They can see it to confirm it is what they want and copy it, but not change it prior to copying.
still easier to work in an excel.... please let us know if there is any plan (haha) to be able to create template plans, and copy it over (initiate new plans) based on a template or existing plan.
Hi Planner Team,
We are facing another challenge. Will it be possible to copy a default (template) plan across channels or groups (in either Teams and or Planner and or groups)?
Idea behind this is that a project lead can copy a default structure into his own project channel (as part of teams) and after this modify the plan to suite its project needs....?
looking forward to your thoughts.....
the ability to copy tasks between teams channels would be really useful. Planner is a great tool but this is a pretty major flaw considering the big push to using MS Teams.

Thanks for the update - at the moment use is limited, until we're able to copy plans as we have multiple schedules with the same milestones.
Using existing plans is great, but it does not create a new plan, even if you rename it. I created a template to select as "use an existing Plan"; but when I change the dates on the renamed plan, it changes the dates on all other plans. If this can be changed not to update the dates in the other plans, this would work perfectly as a template. As it stands, I cannot use this.
