Provide the ability to create Plan templates with existing tasks that can then be used to create a new plan
Rather than having to create every plan from scratch it would be good if the system allowed for the creation of Templates with pre-existing tasks (like in Word/Excel). This would allow a new plan and its tasks to be created from a template saving a lot of time.
Thank you so much for your examples and ideas!
To give an update, we’ve completed our first step of this deliverable, which is the ability to copy a task within a board. We have now planned and scheduled work to deliver copy plan functionality! We have a few more work items to complete before the end of this year, but hope to begin work on copy plan soon after. Your feedback has been very helpful in understanding how we can best deliver this feature.
As we work on copy plan, we will be exploring how a template experience can further help Planner users get things done. What are the ways in which you would like to use a template in Planner?
-The Planner Team
I think copying template plans/buckets would be a huge asset to this program. I would love an update to whether this is progressing or whether I will need to look elsewhere
We also need this feature desperately. Could you please provide information on the date.

Completely agree with the rest of the comments. A spreadsheet is currently far better than Planner for on-boarding new hires and any other repetitive task list. My only addition to the request (and I admit I did not read through every comment) would be that due dates could be relative from a starting point...like 5 days from creation date, etc. And If it could move that due date in the event it falls on a weekend or holiday, that would be awesome. And if you get that last one figured out, perhaps apply it to the Outlook Calendar as well.
Any update on this
We have building projects who need the same plans per project

Dear Microsoft Team,
Please updated the community on expected delivery of this feature to production. Right now it has status scheduled. Would be good to know scheduled for when?
Microsoft has been talking about adding the feature of plan templates for over a year. Why has it not been launched yet??? Seems like it should have been included since the beginning....
How soon can we have the ability to copy an entire Plan? this is a must have and currently wont use Planner without it.

Template functionality is a MUST! There are so many repeated processes that a board would really be really helpful - employee onboarding, server decommissioning, or anything that is a checklist. We're currently using another Boards tool and will continue to do so until you add template abilities...oh, and then there's the access control issue...please add owner, author, and reader access ability to Planner...currently members can delete my Planner tasks...even the ones that aren't assigned to them. This software seems so beta to me.
I have used both Basecamp and am currently using Trello for both planning trade shows and for managing Marcomm projects. Being able to create a project template that you can continue to copy is a huge time saver. The ability to copy tasks is nice, but copying a whole project is way more important to me as a marketer with similar type projects. I would rather use 365 because my whole company is on it and they are not all on Trello. It is a huge miss not having templates if you want to compete with Trello and Basecamp.
RE: What are the ways in which you would like to use a template in Planner?
I could foresee some instances where template functionality for a whole plan would be helpful - wrap up a plan and reuse the template for the next instance. I can also see a benefit to having the ability to create task templates and create multiple new tasks for an existing plan (e.g. if your team has an ongoing production plan that never ends, and you need to insert the next round of tasks to work on).
Are you soon done with this task or when is the task schedule to be finished?

We just launched Office 365 and planner will be an optimal solution to use for our projects, however, it is very cumbersome to have to re-type the bucket headers and each task that needs to start in (To-Do). Having a simple template that will have the same bucket headers and tasks will greatly reduce repetitive steps for each project which can vary from 10 to 15 a week.
Any update on the progress?

We currently use Basecamp for projects which are repeated but have similar deliverables, e.g. store openings so a templating feature is a big one for us to make the move to MS Planner so we can easily build out the base project without having to create a whole suite of tasks over and over.

The copy task option has greatly improved my ability to work with Planner. Another step forward would to be able to copy a bucket. This would be handy when I am planning 12 months worth of tasks.
Need to get templates added soon!!
Would really like to be able to use Plan templates soon.
Is there any other kind of work around until this functionality is enabled? I'm dying here!

I have been tracking this feature since April 2017. Since then, as an interim solution, I am using Apps4.Pro Planner Manager. This tool has come a long way since it's first release.

This is a deal-breaker for us as well if not addressed soon... We're a manufacturer of highly-customized vehicles (fire apparatus) that can spend as long as 2-3 months in production, and we'd like to create a "plan" for each apparatus that we build. To do this time/cost-effectively, we'd need a template plan that had all of the appropriate team members, buckets, and high-level tasks that must be completed for each build (to be added to by the users as it moves through production, of course).
