Provide the ability to create Plan templates with existing tasks that can then be used to create a new plan
Rather than having to create every plan from scratch it would be good if the system allowed for the creation of Templates with pre-existing tasks (like in Word/Excel). This would allow a new plan and its tasks to be created from a template saving a lot of time.
Thank you for your patience. We have updated our Copy Plan experience – please try it out today!
This improvement will include the ability to choose an existing group or team to copy the plan into (or choose to create a new group). You’ll also be able to customize what gets copied over. Attachments can only be copied over into existing groups.

We too would need the possibility to copy a template plan to channels within Teams

Is there a timeline on when we will be able to copy to an existing team/channel if group creation is turned off by the administrator? This would be a greatly appreciated update.
Justin Cobler commented
Yes, Planner needs to allow to copy the plan in the planner by assigning a copy to a channel in Teams.
Your solution is not the answer to this request. I can copy the plan in the planner, but I can't assign a copy to the team or channel in Teams

Is this working? I'm still unable to copy to an existing group. It looks like this feature was launched yesterday.

What I'm trying to find is a way of sharing a planner (or a template of a plan!) generally - so that other teams can use it, without me having to create a team with anyone who might want it in there ... Much as I could share other Microsoft 365 items as "Anyone with the link" & "can't edit" - so they can copy.
Group creation is disabled in our tenant. It seems the new Copy Plan is still blocked by this fact.
Any workarounds? Thank you.

We need to be able to copy the plan to an existing group EVEN IF we do not have permissions to create Groups. I was expecting this update for our users that are not allowed to create groups.
Instead of being denied access to the copy form, they should be restricted to existing Plans (Group).
I've managed to copy a plan(or template) but I can't seem to get it into teams. for now I'm copying and pasting the link. Microsoft is missing a huge opportunity to get these 2 programs to work together.
Any link with a "How to..."??????

For us, we have a lot of sites and often a project will include all sites so we'd like to be able to have a template that has all of the sites as tasks.
Then if we could have a template of checklists for the particular project that we can apply to all of the sites it would be a huge step forward.
A user created library of task templates and another of checklist templates would be good.
Task templates should add to the current project rather than overwrite the existing tasks. Or perhaps a checkbox option to alow the user to decide.
Checklist templates should have to ability for the user to select the tasks in the current plan to apply to (i.e. select a few or an "all" checkbox).
I know, i'm late to the party but I think these would be good functionality to include.

I gave up with Planner. While you are working soo hard to improve it, there are plenty of alternatives with plenty of features already working.

It seems that copying attachments is currently unavailable/greyed out. Is that something that's in the works?
Can you add the ability to copy who was assigned to the task as well?

What do you mean by a group? Are you referring to a team?
I'd like to create a template bucket, with pre-defined tasks. Every time we have a new project we have the same workflow. It would be nice if we wouldn't have to copy all tasks individually.
Having exhausted all my options and pitching the idea to my clients that Planner is the best way forward. I was shocked to find it's limitation.
1. Sprawling of Groups and unable to create a template plan using existing groups.
2. No Recovery of Deleted Plans, Buckets and Tasks.
After doing some research, I found this company in India Apps4Pro Planner Manager which is a google extension. You pay a yearly or monthly charge for the subscription but it has everything one needs to make planner better.
When I created an account, I found these are the third party developers Microsoft uses to fix their bugs. I have also audited their software and there are no password or authentications stored. Give it a visit and make your mind.
Only writing this review as I was really impressed with the software.
Please enable Import and Export.
- At the moment we can only Export Tasks.
We create templates but every time a new plan is copied it creates a new Site on SharePoint and New Group. This is really cumbersome for ADMINS.
-Please add an option to select existing groups when copying plans, this will avoid multiple groups and sites being created.

Please plan to expose it to Automate and PowerShell.
