Integration with outlook tasks
New tasks created in Planner should also be seen in outlook
Hello! We wanted to provide an update to our status below. As we announced in our previous status update, our initial integration with To Do was our first step in a journey of bringing all your Microsoft Task Management services closer together, including Outlook and Planner. Through To Do, you can see your Planner tasks within Outlook on the Web.
However, the continuing feedback on this post makes it clear that there is a desire for more work to be done to improve this experience. We want to make sure this feedback and votes aren’t getting lost by being added to this existing post.
Instead, we’d like to make sure you have a forum to express these continuing pain points / desires, and a way to vote for which ones you’d like us to work on first (and how we should prioritize those asks against the many other great asks we get from users like you).
To that end, we’ve created the following UserVoice items to track some of the feedback we are continuing to see in this post — please vote for the ones that matter the most to you, and add new items to track anything else!
*You want to be able to create Planner tasks from within Outlook: https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/41039506-create-planner-tasks-within-outlook

We’ve just released our integration with To-Do as a first step towards a larger task coherence initiative.
Why To-Do and not Outlook tasks?
We are integrating with To-Do because Outlook tasks is being replaced with the To-Do app. This experience has already shipped for Outlook Web users, and the To-Do team is working on bringing this to Outlook Desktop apps as well.
Today, you can view and edit Planner tasks you’ve been assigned in To-Do’s new Assigned to me list. This is available on to-do.office.com and To-Do’s Windows, Android, and iOS apps.
Here are more details on this integration: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Planner-Blog/Planner-and-To-Do-integration-bringing-you-a-more-cohesive-task/ba-p/553485
Our work in this area is not done, and we’re relying on you to help us decide what’s next! This thread has grown to encompass a lot of different ideas and pain points, so we’d love to break it out to help us prioritize and dive deeper into user scenarios.
One of these ideas is a “Convert to Planner task” button for emails. Vote and join the conversation here: https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525/suggestions/15943510
Thank you so much for your patience and thoughtful feedback, please keep the suggestions coming!

I will follow this integration with great interest.
Very upset by the comment about replacing Outlook Tasks. This integration of the task function is very important to workflow within my business, and I don't believe that To-Do will be able to support the features which has made Outlook Tasks so vital within my organisation.
Need to make more features to the integration:
- Lack sorting, should be able to sort on boards / list or due date atleast
- Lack the ability mark a planner task as important
4 Years. It finally ends.
Awesome work thanks team

Good job, but to make it perfect would be to extend planner also to personal account users, many of todo user are non business
This has made my day. Thanks. Keep up the good work. Hopefully this will be the start of something great
If this function is to be used effectively we need to be able to categorize or move the planner-tasks to different lists.
Also we need to be able to choose if the planner-task is to be completed in planner when completed in to-do. Teams who work with planner are often used to report on the tasks in a meeting. Therefore it would be great if it could be marked as completed somehow but not "dragged" to done in Planner...
Thank you for the great news.
Please also integrate OneNote with To-Do or Planner, as with OneNote 2016 along with Outlook tasks now. This is very useful
Hallelujah! This is awesome and will definitely help with keeping things streamlined. Thank you so much! Will definitely go through this and compile some feedback, as I have have been waiting for this feature since I started with Planner.

Hi.. this is good many thanks.. I'm interested in the road map for the further integration and I assume retiring of "tasks" within Outlook. I use tasks etc at home (via Office 365 home subscription) integrated with Outlook & categories etc (as per your old time management system demo'd by your video "How Harry got Organised") I think To Do will pretty much replace features like for like but would be even better if Planner was available as part of the O365 home suite and not just enterprise so that basic KanBanning could be done too .. I have to use Trello at the moment, but would prefer seamless integration that Planner offers.. its just not an option with the home version of Office 365.
Happy to be contacted direct if that would help

Planner is now integrated with to-do, but those two tabs "Planned" and "Assigned to me", do not appear in Outlook. If you can achieve this last step, I think it would work for a majority of us

Update from a testflight user. Version 1.56 iOS released today introducing the planner integration.
It's been 4 years since original post-LOL. By the time it's finally available,if that ever happen, y'all probably have grandkids
are we sure it's really "In development" phase ?
Please switch to "thinking about it"; it would be more honest.
To the Planner Dev Team: I realize there are many comments here... one thing i've not seen mentioned (but might have missed) is the need for a user to have the option to sync Planner Tasks to their Outlook/calendar as follows: a) display only the Plan tasks which are assigned to the Outlook user, or, b) display all Plan tasks. I mention this because the current use of icalendar feed does not allow options - so unfortunately if you have a large plan involving many people, the number of tasks that appear on your calendar are everyone's and a bit overwhelming! Does anyone know if this will be addressed in the new Dev release?

As i understand it its now possible to sync date and task name as a calendar.
Would be good if description and comments also syncs to my Outlook calendar. Today its only the task name.
I have several customers that want to search in planner-tasks.
The calendar search may be an option to solve it as a workaround.

I believe this will be resolved in April 2019, through Microsoft ToDo app (which uses Outlook Tasks)
Planner needs to become fully integrated with Outlook Tasks, Microsoft To-Do and Teams asap please. Two-way synchronisation at least at first, and then full integration. This is a must-have to be able to manage one's (and a team's) to-do list in Office 365 and get rid of alternative apps/software.
For now, I am using a Flow routine to create new Planner Tasks from Flagged emails in Outlook, but that's not a great fix. I really need full integration. At first, perhaps a Planner add-in in Outlook would do already a nice job, whereby it would be easy to create new Planner Tasks from Outlook (e.g. from flagged emails), and then if a Task is marked as done in either Planner or Outlook, it affects the tasks on both platforms.
