Support for Subtasks or Checklists
I'd like to break up a single tasks into multiple sub items

We have completed the checklist feature as a solution for this.
Here is a related thread if you’d like to support or follow the suggestion for assigning checklist items: https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/14924745-assign-checklist-item-to-specific-individuals

It would be great if checklist items could be sorted into various buckets as well. I.E. each "task" may have various sub-tasks ("checklist" items), each of which in turn can be sorted into various sections (i.e. a group of marketing checklist items, a group of implementation checklist items items, etc., all of which roll up to one overall task). To reiterate what others have said below, it would also be helpful to be able to assign check list items to specific people, with due dates, etc., as well.

I like how checklists are now available for tasks.
I've observed that Planner allows me to mark a task complete, even though there are incomplete checklist items for the task. The completed task then shows the incomplete checklist items. From my perspective, it would be better to do one of the following: 1) Generate an error informing the user they cannot mark a task complete without first completing the checklist items, or 2) Assume the user meant to check the checklist items as part of marking the task complete and automatically check any incomplete checklist items. The former goes along with another request here to require users to put data into mandatory fields before they can mark a task complete. I like the former approach better.
The latter would be speedier, and perhaps making assumptions that all sub-tasks are done if a user marks the task complete would be a good approach.
Making it a manual chore to check the items on the checklist without making that mandatory prior to a task being completed isn't very logical.

Vote for subtasks, including ability to expand/collapse subtasks/child from the parent.

Cheklists are great, it would be nice if we can have "subtask" functionality - to track start/due date, assigment, etc

I agree - we currently use sub-task checkboxes in Wunderlist. E.g. The task would be to advertise a particular course we were running online, then sub-tasks would be each website we need to list on, setting up Google adwords etc.

The checklists are nice. It would be even better to see subtasks that can be assigned to different users and each sub task can have it's own set checklists. Things are looking good so far.

Would love to see this too!

Hope this can work the way Trello does in that I just need a simple checklist inside of a card. I use that feature all the time for tracking system builds for example.

Would be great of there was someway to see a series of subtasks that need to be ordered, like assurance gates. Maybe they could be assigned a weighting that would represent a percentage of completion as you tick them off.

This is huge. I'd like to see a checklist that can be copied and added to many different tasks.
Used for System rollouts, software updates, etc. (Checklist of users.) -

Essential Idea. Great to see it is started already.

I assume this is a means of handling dependencies. Correct?
