Support for Subtasks or Checklists
I'd like to break up a single tasks into multiple sub items
We have completed the checklist feature as a solution for this.
Here is a related thread if you’d like to support or follow the suggestion for assigning checklist items: https://planner.uservoice.com/forums/330525-microsoft-planner-feedback-forum/suggestions/14924745-assign-checklist-item-to-specific-individuals

We cannot assign a checklist item to another person. This isn't a solution.

Parent-child relationships among tasks would be much more beneficial than just assigning checklist items.
I have to agree with the others, I was hoping that my team could use planner as an event planning software, but with all the limitations I will have to look elsewhere

Agree with the crowd here. The lack of ability to assign checklist items to team members and also without due dates makes them pretty useless. This was apparent in our first attempt at using planner.

Sorry to say but I agree with others below. This is poor design. We do not need a checklist, we need to have a hierarchy of task. Tasks that can link to task, that can themselves link to task...
Object inheritance. One task may contain many tasks, and these subtasks are just standard tasks...
Subtasks without the ability to assign people to checklists and relevant due dates is of no use! Please add the option of subtasks and due dates.
Can we assign people to checklists and relevant due dates? A card is a big ticket item and requires numbers of people to get the card complete, merely having a checklist is not enought
Ok, so how do we take advantage of this capability. It is not apparent how to do it.

Adding due dates to checklist items is essential. Adding assignees is essential for any kind of parallel (non-sequential) work. For sequential work we can change the main assignee. That's annoying and how many real-life tasks are purely sequential? This is a really important improvement.
Please allow more than one level of subtasks. Sometimes tasks have subtasks, and those subtasks have their own subtasks. This allows us to really break things down into groups. For an example, check out Wrike.
We don't use planner yet since it lacks some features we prefer.
Some additional ideas - multiple checklists (group of checklists) in one card? Add due date to the subtasks and checklists too? Or Parent-child relationship between cards like the Power-up Hello Epics does for Trello.

we see the task list on the card!. this is great, no need for fat feature task list, this makes subdividing a larger task into chunks much easier.
I am not sure they get the issue. Go check out Wrike.com. We need to be able to assign a task in the checklist to a different user than the main task/project. Basically you are missing a level of assignment. Honestly, it should be design where you can create a hierarchy as deep as you want to go.
I think they were thinking that each plan would be for a specific project with an end date. But most people are using it as an ongoing collaborative task list. Which it should be able to do both.
It's impossible to organize tasks very well when I'm the task owner, but have no ability to delegate a subtask. Any workaround just becomes a mess. Back to Asana for now.

Great idea to have subtasks but need to be able to assign to different users. Agree with the guyss below.
agree with rob - subtasks/check lists need to be assigned to different users and have individual due dates assigned to them
Need ability to assign Checklist items or subtasks to different people. Even without a due date would be a great start. With a due date would be better. Is this on the roadmap? coming in next 3-6 months? if not, we will need to go to another product. let me know please
Create the ability to have assignable subtasks. Large projects that need coordination between teams should be farmable to different users under a single goal.

Add due dates to sub-tasks and the ability to assign them

It would be interesting to extend the Outlook Task / Reminder functionality "Reminder" to a certain item in the Planner checklist.
